eastcoast 4,900
We would sometimes be asked to volunteer for a "ghoster", back when many businesses, particularly banks, did not open at weekends. Electrical distribution system changes or upgrades. Power off when last member of staff left on a Friday (except security at banks) then everything needing to be done by 07:00 Monday. The plan was that those who started on Friday would work through until replaced on Saturday morning then swap again on Sunday. Did not usually work like that though. Often it would become obvious that the scope of works could not be completed working those shifts. The poor bloke in charge would ask Friday crew to "do a bit more". If he was someone who would do the same for us you would end up staying. Helping a mate and the allure of lots of double bubble. Added risk of when the real fatigue started kicking in on Sunday morning that's when the power was going back on. No none live working back then, no one had been educated in Electricity at Work Regs. Often a gaffer would call in suited and booted for his Saturday evening of enjoyment with fish & chips and pop for everyone. As an apprentice I used to think " ee, what a lovely bloke"

Desynchronises, had it loads of times, for me it’s worse flying east-west long haul than west-east,feels like my heads filled with cotton wool and brain fog.It does feel like being in an awake-coma. Good luck to your pal as his journey ain't over yet and may never be but it's so worth having a life where you can choose what way your day will go ,he just needs something to do now as he's been a bit pre occupied ffrom having a real life for the last 27 years ..
