That was a step too far for Farage, the “middle ground” voters would, rightly or wrongly, find that abhorrent and would never vote for it. I think Lowe has some good plans , but comes across, to me, to be politically naive . Habib said he would let illegal immigrants drown in the channel, not once, but repeated it on GBNews, now, wether you or I agree with it, the vast majority of voters would also find that abhorrent. Cheers.
jukel123 10,139
He's just another over privileged tory type. He led Southampton FC into administration when he was chairman and brought in a rugby World Cup winner to advise his football management team. Lol. He's a granny farmer which is a disgusting practice imo. Like any business these farms rely on accepting tenders from the lowest bidders so care is inevitably compromised. He's the kind of guy who would rejoice in returning little boys up chimneys and having man traps in his pheasant pens. It's easy to talk big and promise the earth when you are in opposition. Different when you are in power. Even if he did return all illegal immigrants, that measure would not address the fact that our standard of living and our public services have fallen way below that of other comparable countries. I haven't heard any party categorically state it will bring our water back into public ownership again like 99.9999% of other countries. Other fundamental public services should also be brought back into public ownership and the b*****ds who sold them off, plus the people who filled their pockets at our expense should be imprisoned. Fat chance. Reform just offers more of the same tory policies. If they win the next election it will be Groundhog day once again. I hate to sound like Farages and Reforms spokesman on THL, but here I go again I don’t know if you watched Reforms announcements yesterday, but at the end Farage took questions from EVERy media outlet in the room and gave comprehensive answers to all except FT who asked some inane questions about what schools they all went to, (all privately schooled as it happens), but I digress ; he was asked if his policies about “nationalisation “ were “socialist”; he replied that government ownership, part owernership or over seeing utilities like water and power were not “socialist” , but imperative to the economy and security of the country . Cheers.

So hate everyone in politics then or is British politics just going to be "you can please some of the people some of the time" and endure what's coming regardless of whose in power ? As Churchill said; “Democracy isn’t perfect, but it’s the least bad of all the alternatives.”. Another saying is “Power corrupts, and absolute power absolutely corrupts!”. There will be wrong’uns in EVERY political party, “Benevolent Dictatorship “ sounds good, problem is dictators NEVER stay benevolent for long. So, I can’t see any alternative to the present system, and I can only vote for a party who’s views most align with mine and hope for the best , but be prepared for the worst Cheers. I'm afraid I do hate british politicians mate. I remember the fifties and sixties when we were recovering from the war. The country underwent tremendous political and social change, all for the better. Public services were good and wages and conditions were vastly improved. Since then politicians have become willing gophers and acceptors of bungs from rich lobbying groups. You should hate then too mate. In one of your posts you stated you had to buy your own Parkinsons drugs. Outrageous! I checked whether you would have to do that in France or Germany. The answer is no. You wouldn't have to buy them in the nordic countries or Scotland where I live either. England has become little America. We even have several tent and van cities just like Philadelphia Street, not to mention many seaside towns like Blackpool where life expectancy is decades less than other less deprived areas of the UK. I've just come back from skippering a boat. It struck me that the fishing industry has become much like the UK as a whole. When I was in my twenties you could make serious money as you were paid a fair proportion of the ships profits. In 1983, I put a 30 grand deposit on a smallholding with only a small 20 year year mortgage. But profit sharing has gone out of the window and most trawlermen are foreigners who are paid pitiful washers. The boat owner pockets the lot these days. Same as the UK industry as a whole. The UK is in a bad way imo. I have no faith in the basic decency of any politician.
