I remember working in Holland 25 years ago and they had both glass and plastic recycling machines in supermarkets then. You’d get a discount voucher for the amount you returned, which could be redeemed with your shopping bill.

The SNP disastrously tried to do similar a couple of years ago, but it fell apart as they hadn’t considered the implications on (particularly small) businesses.., and they couldn’t square everything required with the UK govt. Imho it was just another ill thought out and doomed to failure SNP eco vanity project. Morons.

We recycle everything we can, including taking glass to bottle banks, pretty much everything else is uplifted. I don’t have much faith that it all gets recycled but I come from a ‘waste not want not’ era and society, and at least my conscience is clear. Some neighbours of mine recycle fcuk all, I think because they’re bone idle. I’d like to see scales on the bin lorries and charges for ‘general waste’ and rebates for recycled. I pay the same if not more council tax as some of those lazy fcukers so don’t see why I should be paying to tip their plastic, aluminium etc. into landfill.
