Hong Kong Apartment Blocks fire.

Recommended Posts

Hell of a way to go. Probably since 9/11 the first thing I do if I stay at a high rise hotel/apartment block is find out where the fire exit is in case I have to get to it through a smoke filled corridor.

Fire fighters hampered by the bamboo scaffolding that's caught fire. Anyone who has seen bamboo scaffolding how do they fix it together like steel scaffolding using clips.

No mate,no clips, they tie or lash it together with lengths of plastic straps.

When I lived in Hong Kong I remember bamboo scaffolding collapsed onto Nathan Road in TST,the guys working on it came down also onto the road.

The odd thing is mainland China stopped using bamboo a few years back,Hong Kong was “phasing it out”.

It seems crazy that civilised people are using medieval building techniques in this day and age.

I barely trust a bamboo chair when I sit on it , never mind bamboo scaffold,  hundreds of feet in the air..
