Shepherd types

Anyone know anything about these breeds

The flat backed supposedly healthier stock

Are the east european offerings just a money spinner, or are some worth looking into

I had a bit of time around a Mali dog last year and he seemed a nice steady dog, off the lead and friendly enough with everybody, but I could sense he was keeping his eye on me

Do you mean German Shepherds?  There's a few members on here have worked with them. Member by the name of Downsouth?

You found a Mali which was "nice and steady". It must have been drugged or anaesthetised lol.  I couldn't get along with one.  Far too restless and hyper for me. Worse than border collies in my opinion.

German shepherd types and similar I've always had a liking for them, but with having the runners never looked into them properly and hearing about hip dysplasia and too much breeding for looks etc 

There was about 15 to 20 people in a 7 acre woodland when I saw the Mali so maybe he had enough going on to keep him quiet, and his owner had been away with him for a few hours, I'm not saying I would have a Mali myself, but if there is a shepherd type or some bloodline to look out for that is suited to being out in the countryside going for decent walks/travelling about and being at the woods for a few days at a time that sort of thing, I would be interested in them

Iv 2 shepherd's the mum is a straight back kc , and her daughter we used a stud from a bloke who bread police dogs he chose us a steady straight back dog to use , both dogs are great around kids n stock both very sensible and easy to live with n both guard the house n kids well

My nephew from the UK, now living in Perth has got a German Shepherd from working lines. It's a huge dog, almost pure black and he has trouble keeping it occupied. The Malis I've seen should only be owned by law enforcement or guarding air force bases and jobs like that, they are too much for almost anybody else. The nephew's dog has no genetic health problems though.

The breeder we used for the stud dog was saying that most police dogs spend 10 hours a day in a box in the back of a car so they don't need any fancy working lines just a loud dog with a good off switch,  he had some malis cross shepherd's that looked nice but he sed was hard work,  he was an interesting bloke was explaining what different forces want in a dog etc and how they test them

I've never trusted shepherd types, I've been bitten by a couple,one was a police dog that it's handler had slipped to bring me to stand still, it grabbed my arm and tried to hold me and luckily I had a hoodie and a big leather jacket on so slipped out the jacket and climbed over a security fence that was to high for the dog ,the other time was again a police dog at a Southampton, Portsmouth game .

A lad I know got couple years for picking a police dog up and dropping it over a subway in Peterborough,he said the dog grabbed his arm so he picked the fcuking thing up and he could see the panic in it's eyes and he just dropped it over the fence ,

They is a local gaver whos a dog handler, anyway she exercises this bear of a shepherd on estate land I used to live near,she would let it off the lead and you could see she didn't have control of it ,if the dog went near other dogs she'd be screaming and shouting No No at the it but it just ignore her ,it went on to savage someones pet lab and she thankfully not allowed dogs anymore.

I'm sure some are nice and good around people and as a guard they definitely look the part but I'd rather stick to a lurcher .

Not all trainers ,handlers are good though,just because a gaver passes a exam doesn't mean they good dog handlers,

If I left my dogs in a box for 10 hours I'd get done for cruelty

Saw a couple of well trained ones recently,both handled by ex military,very steady.

I watched a documentary about Russian prisons ,they used mali types when they was moving inmates around the jail and they had the big Caucasian shepherds ,fcuk they look like bears,takes two men to hold them , imagine one of them grabbing hold of you,
