Aussie Whip 4,292 Posted yesterday at 06:28 Report Share Posted yesterday at 06:28 The show and working Russells over here are nothing alike, in looks and temperament. The eyes give it away to me, like a teddy bear next to a tiger. I'm sure some of the show types could work to some extent but they lose ability each generation if not worked imo. 2 Quote Link to post

No doubt he had good terriers but he was breeding enough to get good ones There Used to be loads for sale in the old yellow free ads every week, when I was growing up..any white dog with a brindle/black patch on half it's head was apparently from his fox warren lineall the ones I ever saw were never peas in a pod types, some was short and long in the back, others up on stilts with weak heads... Don't forget ,the Man and many more like him,was a dog breeder selling dreams... there's no money when your in hunt service/digging/stopping full time ...so they supplimented it by peddling 2 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Eddie is almost idolised in the US, but not so much here. The bloke on FB by the name of Terrierman, can't gush enough about him. I dug to a couple of his dogs in the 80's and they were decent enough. I last seen him at my only visit to Crufts about 17 years ago. Back in the 80's a mate put a dog off Eddie over a working Border bitch and they also were good. Eddie seen a white bitch off this litter at a show and bought it off the lad, knowing how it was bred. He then put one of his dogs over that and sold the lot as his line. And though I'll bet those pups were no worse for that quarter Border blood, Eddie's far from the only terrier 'legend' to do such a thing... Quote Link to post
