Guys expect to lift heavy weight straight away. Took me years to get the foundation. Jail helped alot back in day. You get f***ing idiots chasing drugs for a head change. Can do there time straight headed. Weak minded c**ts. Get in gym get out feeling good not same as you went in. A kept training on the out. Years ago we used to say if you came out the shovel bigger and stronger than you went in then you are a " weak minded c**t " in your words......anyone who's motivation has to be " ive got nothing else to do " is never going to live a fit and healthy life. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there, imho it’s just in some peoples nature to be dedicated to something and if that thing is gym/fitness call it what you will, then they will no doubt stay in trim probably all their life…..a lad I know has a massive fitness camp/gym thing in Marbella. He is in his 60s now and like an elite athlete, it’s just how he is wired….because I think you have to be wired up that way. Id be different, I’d be sat at the pool eating paella, soaking up the sun on my aching joints, getting fatter, bouncing a grand child on my knee and counting the scratch from other people who want to do that stuff…..because that’s just how I’m wired. I think the rule is easy, if you start feeling uncomfortable in yourself, do something about it, if you’re ok with yourself then don’t…. Lifes too short and you took too many knocks not to enjoy a good meal, butter on your toast, a hot chocolate when it’s chilly or a nice bit of pie when it catches your eye and sit back and enjoy the scenery as you do it all….thats my philosophy, that’s how I’m wired. Wiring and genetics, they will always win imho.

How can you be weak minded a was 15 year old never been in a weights gym before that. A wasn't one to be running around the wing for drugs like the rest chasing a high. A used to love it behind the door. These jails where your out most day on the landing for me was no good. A used to go gym sleep most the time. These that want to be running around the wing. Want two thing drugs or burn at the time. Was a few decent lads that did the same. Gym and in the pad. The weak minded ones are the ones that can't do it behind the door. And need drugs to get by in jail.

We went to garden centre last weekend. He was lifting bags of gravel up like they weighed nothing. All old timer's were looking at him. Thinking wtf. 90 years of age put half these youngens to shame. Still rides his bike. Stands in kitchen beside work top doing jumping raises. Hes a mad man. Edited June 20 by Bangersanmash

Exactly, before the days of these muggy podcasts and people suddenly taking an interest in fitness/diet/supplements now because its " cool "....people like me who long before the internet came about studied, learned and lived strength and conditioning were thought of as a bit weird but it was a lifestyle to me from teens right up to a few years ago......due to a tough last few years and an elbow injury that ive now had 4 surgeries on and is still not fixing ive had to ease off a bit and it kills me......ive enjoyed having a beer and eating nice food these last few years but it eats away at my conscience.......my ol woman probably says it right that my belief that ive " let myself go " is most peoples normal living !......its definitely a mindset i will never understand people who buck to " trends "........middle aged men suddenly becoming all aware of their diet and lifestyle used to be called " a mid life crisis " ffs 1
