'Dragon man' fossil turns out to be world's only known Denisovan skull | Unexplained Mysteries https://share.google/HOd90mdKX0mDRY2Lu

fossilized skull discovered in the 1930s has now been identified as that of an elusive, ancient species of human.

Originally unearthed by a construction worker during the building of a bridge across the Songhua River in Harbin, China, the skull - named 'Dragon Man' - only came to light when the man's family decided to donate it to Hebei Geo University in Shijiazhuang back in 2018.

In 2021, researchers declared that it belonged to a new species of human - Homo longi - but as it would turn out, there was more to the skull than met the eye.

Now, two new studies headed up by paleontologist Qiaomei Fu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have revealed that the skull, far from being that of a new species, is actually that of a Denisovan - making this the first known skull of this species ever identified.

Before this, all we had to go on to understand the Denisovans were a few fossil fragments.

To identify the skull, the team extracted proteins from the petrous bone as well as mitochondrial DNA from the plaque on its teeth.

"The finding that the human DNA of the Harbin specimen is better preserved in the dental calculus than in dense bones, including the petrous bone, suggests that dental calculus may be a valuable source for investigating DNA in Middle Pleistocene hominins," the researchers wrote.

The findings indicated that the Denisovans were not that unlike other species of ancient humans from the time, although further fossil discoveries could change this conclusion in the future.

The DNA has also helped to more conclusively identify other fossil fragments as those of Denisovans.

As for Homo longi , however - sadly, it seems that this particular human ancestor never actually existed.

So they got the skull in 2018,done no tests but declared it a new human species lol

Very trustworthy mate

All this species tall is bollix,if you go to Africa now there's plenty of men with that description on a head, never mind africa there's a few floaty round my city with heads like that, there's one human kind an that's it,there's different types of skulls right now around the world,African,Asian Chinese, are they all different species because of a different skull structure?no

Clueless, show me any human skulls that have the vast differences between say a Neanderthal and a modern human? Lol

Complex subject is religion...

I've said it many times I don't see why both religion and science can't co exist

Let's start with Jesus....did he exist most certainly he was probably some kind of preacher...(imagine if he was like one of these yank preachers lol)

Then the bible a book written by men over a thousand years of different stories and rules to live ...do you think some of it is wrong...and some bits are correct...this younger dryas is proving the flood might be right...what about Noha and his Ark...well maybe....but I'm sure his Ark only contained his family and farm animals if it's real...

God....that's the big question..personally I'm not convinced...but genuinely I want to be wrong...maybe God is not in our form...but more some kind of ball of energy with a conscious...

Very interesting subject

You can't have both when science disproves the bollocks about about the earth & the heavens being only 6000 years old, I mean I've been waiting for Francie's pull-up video for longer.

Yes I get that....but that's just a man's interpretation in the bible...this is what I mean by some bits being wrong....humans make mistakes...maybe there should be another decimal point and 3 more zeros...making 6 billion years old.....see what I'm getting at

Science has never disproved the earth being thousands of years all mate, there assuming with all there flaws tests an circular reasoning but it 100percent hasn't been proven either way

Not having that, I mean where in the bible does it mention the first human species, those without the ability to talk?

The New Testament is basically a book of principles, a guidance on how to live a life with morals, that's basically it, all the rest is just pure fabrication.

Quite right mate lots of grey areas Chinese whispers and bits added on or lost over years but you are trying to debate with someone that is not interested in finding the answer just hammering his point to death
