Wolfdog91 7,579
Well dad about gave me a heart attack just now came banging on my bedroom window to wake me up ( usually dont get up till like ten first few days I'm home) asked me if I wanted a quail ...then proceeded to just hand me a hamster cage with a singular quail... Apparently something happened with the way they tried penning them and ...yeah I got this guy..... girl.... whatever I'm not the best at identifying the bits and bobs on birds ... Think it's a girl tho ,no stand out plumage or anything.... So guess it's time to build a quail tractor ...and get on Facebook and try and find some one selling these things, because no one has quail in stock and I don't think they do best as solitary critters Guess I'm try and build a lil A frame tractor I guess would be less wood and with the other projects I got goin I'm running out of space for wood storage.... Which btw no on warned me not to let my wife know I can screw some.board together half decent. Woman thinks I'm a carpenter now
jok 3,413
Oddly. Some years ago I kept quail. I had a fairly big aviary for canaries, bully’s, goldies and various others. I had the quail as all they did was run around the floor and lay eggs. From memory I had a dozen and they were lovely. Jok.

Chid 6,698
When we lived with the in laws . We hatched and reared quail for hawk food and food for the FiL also for the eggs . At one point we had over 400 in the pen and then what ever was in the brood shed and whatever we was incubating.. Easiest way to sex them is wait till you hear ionecrow you know that's a male .. (males are generally smaller than the females ..)

BEARINATOR 2,913
Good little birds in the aviary but need a male and at least 2 hens, they lay eggs all over as bad mothers that won’t sit the nests. Good little flyers as well given enough room

Singles around a fiver. Day old chicks used to pay 20 quid a box.
adamntitch 4
that's a male normal Japanese quail . I breed them in loads of different colours but miles away from you they can be vent sexed as well gentle push down near there cloaca and a male will produce a foam only works if there over 6 weeks old or wait till it crows but can say 90% that's a male would need to see a front on pic to be sure
