I am speaking from experience mate it obviously does something to help reset the muscles. I can assure you with just cold water on a hot day after a run it works. Ideally you need someone with you as you get into the bath as it's makes you feel like you want to pass out. You don't want to drown now do you.

lol ye let’s not drown just give ourself a clutcher instead lol

i fail to see how constricting blood flow helps heal and repair out to be honest mate

It dampens down the inflammation process which obviously brings discomfort after a hard session. But as you say, if you have an undiagnosed or diagnosed ticker problem it could end up being your last bath. Lol

Reminds me of council swimming baths when I was a kid........bitter cold and when you got out your lips would be blue and you'd stink of chlorine !

Im still around, so it probably did us no harm ! LOL !

Anyone with a heart condition should avoid them full stop as they increase heart rate and blood pressure.

you say that ice water works gnash ? what benefits do they have im just talking when ive been injured i was always told cold  helps straight away to stop blood flow help swelling and inflammation stay down

but to heal recover you want heat that opens up let’s blood flow to the area repair you quicker

ive always done the same with dogs aswell

Short term relief isn't it but as you say it might actually lengthen the healing process because it reduces inflammation and restricts blood flow.

Same as what Pardus says mate short term relief is the main benefit....an ache or soreness after a morning session that may otherwise prevent you from doing an aftenoon session are the physical benefits.....the mental benefits some folk say are a boost in mood and more mental resilience....but thats not proven,i dont buy it personally.

Thats not a laugh at your post Gnash

It’s a laugh at those liking it who think they know better than people who have experience of it .

I think the resilience thing is relevant though , it is a “man test “ type thing , see how long you can keep in it etc . It’s a certainly a shock to the system

Probably not with the sophistication of todays but we was doing ice baths way back in the late 80's before ice baths were even a thing it was just basic common knowledge that recovery was aided by ice baths......no actual temperature just as cold as you can take it for as long as you can take it....and yes it would be a common " im getting out last " mental test type of thing......but outside of a gym full of competing sportsmen it would of been laughed at whereas today my mid 60's sister has got one !....f****n idiot.
