They scream like mad and the bucks can thrash and cut a dog quite badly if it’s just grabbing a leg and not trying to kill it.. you can’t teach a throat hold, that’s just instinct in some dogs. My old coursing dog was a leg grabber…. Caught loads of deer but killed very few. If muntys are your game, your dog will need to be good in cover.. large coursing dogs aren’t suited to this.. their legs are too long and aren’t fast enough in thick cover to keep up. Great for lamping them but daytime hunting is a different ball game. My beddy cross has a great nose and jacket, is good in cover and wants to kill what it catches… that would be ideal if you were looking to hunt munty. And that's why they can be quite tricky to kill, because they don't have a long neck inviting a throat hold like a roe deer. They are small, short and compact, sturdy little things. I don't know anything about them or there habitat or habits . I must admit I would like to see them. They harder to stop in cover daytime than on the lamp Leo 3 Quote Link to post
Moonlighter123 321
My old coursing dog was great on the hares. He was well bred (dickensons Red x a bitch out of lucky), but he wasn’t an aggressive dog. He caught a few deer but didn’t really want to kill them. He would grab the leg, let go, catch them again etc. That come from the farthers side I think as the mum loved to kill stuff. My dog was pretty gay though.. didn’t cock his leg and looked like a girl 1 1 Quote Link to post
