Thecooksta1 161
Who used to hunt these pre ban and What dogs did you use for the job? And where they as tough as the stories. Cheers cooksta Quote Link to post
tatsblisters 10,923
Only hunted them a few times and that young dog you have should be ideal for them. My fx salukigreyhound i had nailed one at ten month old and it was the first one he had ever seen after it came out of some brambles and ran across a field. If i was inclined to get another lurcher for small deer like roe and muntjac i would look no further than the coursing bred saluki hybrids tbh. 3 Quote Link to post
Moochersways 244
Munty bucks can be tough there solid lil deer, half the battle with them is finding one out in the open long enough when they hit cover they deffo got the advantage normally they'll go from cover to cover and thick stuff too, riddled with munty where I am hear them more than you see them but if you got a dog that works cover well you'll see plenty 6 Quote Link to post
fireman 11,331
Iv'e caught hundreds of the things over the years and the best dog i saw was mine on them, she was built like a brick shithouse but only 23/4 inches tall and had a dose of bull in her.She loved teeth as well and she loved the ruck a muntie can give back at times and iv'e seen the next best small deer dog )chinks, munties, roe) killed by a muntie putting it's antler through the dogs neck and out it's ear, that dog was coursing bred saluki type..I'd go for a heavier bodied dog than a saluki x and one with some bottle in the line as there tough little buggers and iv'e stitched up a lurcher more than once and burried another due to them, but there good sport and taste better then a stinky old fallow and you can hide them inside a baggy coat should you have to... I see them every day on my 2 mile drive to my works yard and it's making me a bit itchy for a running dog again.. 11 Quote Link to post

Healthy numbers of roe , sika over hill and there is reds up dales if you know , I have heard of them hybridising with sika but I’d imagine they’d soon get plugged we stalking men 1 Quote Link to post

Yeah that's why we use salukis over here to get boars out of blackberry, lol. Why do you feel threatened about different types of dogs being better at certain jobs than yours? You need help mate. 5 3 Quote Link to post
