I fancy walking from Wallsend to Carlisle along the Roman Wall route, but I wouldn’t need an app to do it. Maybe an ordnance survey map, or just a compass and a watch. Or even just look at the sun and head west ! LOL ! Cheers. I don't need an app normally, and I would agree with you. I just want to do a few individual long walks and measure exactly how far I've managed in a day. I really fancy doing the Camino across Spain one day and it would be good to know what I could manage distance wise

tatsblisters 8,010
I just go on the step counter on my watch. I think it's just curiosity with me on how many miles i walk now days when years ago tramping over the moors with a couple of lurchers or lamping all night it never crossed my mind how many miles i must have covered on a day or night out.

Neal 1,791
A few years ago my wife and some of her work colleagues got into the whole "a certain number of steps per day to keep healthy" thing. They all used an app on their phone and whoever did the most each week got some kind of prize (probably chocolate!). I asked if I could join in for a laugh. I gave up after a couple of weeks as my daily amount was roughly their weekly amounts. On one day I was ill and bed-ridden. As we all know, bed-ridden means can't get out of bed for anything...but I'll still walk the dogs though. I still won that day. Like you, I grew up as a walker as neither of my parents could drive. They both learnt after they divorced as their new spouses were both drivers. Lots of people think it's weird but I've managed to get by with just my legs for fifty five years so I'll keep going. My wife drives though. Is that cheating?

dogmandont 9,375
The built-in app on my phone and watch are spot on for saving my route, distance, elevation and heart rate but for a downloadable app go for Stava, I use it mostly for finding new mtb trails, helped me find a trail called the Holy Grail last Saturday. Lol.
