Self employed, subcontractor..

Talking to a van driver yesterday who works for a middleman on a ton a day he gets feck all in tax breaks one of the reasons he doesn't pay any or NI and the van is kept at work were it's costing him 125 a month to get to he has told us he would be better off working in the warehouse with us with shorter hours and 30 days paid holiday's and with him only being in his late 20s he his looking for better work on the books.

That's what i say to them mate i am on nearly that with a job and done that rarely takes us over 5 hours a day's work and with paid holiday's its no wonder most of them have faces liked smacked arses when they reach us at 5pm after starting work at 6am delivering parcels and then doing collection's from numerous businesses.

I’m on the tools this week got a contract with South Yorkshire homes boarding and skimming void properties got a young lad with me we’ve been starting at 5 and done for 12 every day he thinks it’s great he’s 19 just finishing at college he wants to go on the books with us

Is that English lads doing those hours for a oner mate .

That’s £9 an hour gross minus 20% =£7.27 an hour .

Thats way under the minimum wage mate .Somethings not right with that mate .

Minimum wage is £10.42 for over 23 year old .

Applies to self employed as well as employed .

All English lads mate with the min wage that went up in April that's what they're saying they are working below min wage some of them get a few hours free time once their delivery's are finished and there collection's dont start wile later.

Some of the younger lads who do these jobs think because they are self employed they have no rights and going on what I have heard other courier delivery firms who have middle men subcontractors are not much better.

If they are being payed less than mimimum wage ACAS will be more than interested
