jukel123 9,367
I know I'm going to be unpopular with this post, but to me its a fair enough letter. . The cops may be able to help in slowing traffic or warn motorists of a road hazard. You do get stray hounds on the roads sometimes a mile or so from where the main pack is. When you're doing sixty and you come across a lost hound with zero road sense, it's a major road traffic accident in the making.. Having a couple of guys responding quickly to lost hounds on roads is all that is required to keep the cops happy and people safe. I have told huntsmen of stray hounds on the road and the attitude was a shrug of the shouders and a muttered "it will soon catch up". Try cycling with a couple of lurchers running free behind you on a major road, you would soon be stopped and charged. No I am not an anti and yes I support fox hunting and have been a member of fox packs and other packs. No point in making enemies of the cops, they've got a very big gang. Fill in the bit of paper and carry on. I wish I could fill in bit of paper , wander the land with dogs and cross major roads in full view without fear of prosecution. Beat me to it; it's this arrogance that causes lots of the issues
DIDO.1 22,862
I worked for a pack that always had a dedicated road team, flashing orange lights, road signs, high Viz etc. Always in radio contact and prior discussion with police. With anything, from hunting with hounds to lurcher work....if you play the game the police will leave you alone. My mate went on a big estate with his coursing greyhounds last season, on a vermin day, police knew all about it, paperwork all in order. No issues at all. I've done the same with terriers, have paperwork and notify police which area we would be working in. Play the game and the law can get on with other thing's. I've gone from hunting every week to not been out since spring.... Purely because of the sad state hunting is in, and I'm sorry to say it's the attitude and incompetence of hunts that's the problem, not the law. 4

Im not welcome at the Beaufort any more I support the tradition more than the Hunt these days mate, Local huntsman who had just taken over asked through a mate if i would take him round and introduce him to some of the local land owners as he was intending to increase the number of days they hunted, to do this they needed more land. First farmer i took him to said hello Paul, I said this is "so and so from the so and so" He just got up in his tractor and drove off Not even an acknowledgement, Needless to say that was the end of his first idea as huntsman.
