Russian Fighter jet fires missile at 2 British fighters

Recommended Posts

Russian Fighter jet fires missile at 2 British fighters over the black sea, Russia has said it was a technical error that caused the missile to fire, Just goes to show how easy it is for us and then Indeed NATO to get caught up in this war in Ukraine.

Two Russian fighters fired a missile "in the vicinity of" a British RC 135 spy plane.

Im sure the missile wasn't "locked on" or we would have a downed spy plane.

More likely a warning or testing our reaction and defences ?

Cheers.

The story has changed since it was first reported as breaking news this morning then. I don't think an air to air missile can be fired without a lock being achieved. Maybe it was a malfunction..........But i doubt it ?

Yes they can....it's known in the old naval parlance as "a shot across the bows" ?

Cheers.

But then surely it would just be looking for a target to obtain a lock, a danger to both parties involved.

"Lock On After Launch" (LOAL).

A pilot can launch a missile then lock on once the missile is in the air. He doesn't have to lock on to a target.

Cheers.

But that would be a deliberate launch and not a technical problem, It possibly just fell off the rail but then the radar would not of detected it on our planes, who knows other than the Russian pilot and Putin mate, Scary times though,

I wouldn't hazard a guess mate, but you said you thought a missile couldn't be launched without a "lock on", I simply answered you saying they can ?

Cheers.
