Because killing it would do absolutely nothing for control but probably weaken the quality of what is only a small population, and produce no meat of value.

I’d have a fantastic head sitting in peroxide right now, which I’ve wanted for some time. But he wasn’t the one, not this time at least.

On other land, I’ve took plenty of heads. But it is just that, taking a trophy. Any other reason is just an excuse.

Took a muntjac doe off the same place tonight. That’s actual meaningful control.

Maybe some people don’t want to post continuously about what they shoot. Doesn’t mean they don’t “do a bit”

Was out for a munty last night and within 10 mins found this guy holding 3 hinds with a calf each. Shit pic, but he was tearing up the field, head back with his lip curling. Let out the odd roar.

Crappy photo warning but I was out hunting pheasant this morning and bumped a roe doe up. It stopped for ages less than 30yds away. It had seen my dog. Here is the crappy photo. You can just see her arse.IMG_20221015_093914.jpg.4dfbc18b0ffbc426934b44fc44487988.jpg

No siblings about though. I'm petrified of dog men finding these! It would just be my luck. There hasn't been roe here for over 70 years!

So yesterday afternoon I had a chap up for a guided stalk off Instagram .He brought his own rifle ,a bonus and drove up from Dartmoor to hopefully kill a decent munty buck .I knew where there was a cracker but he also wanted a couple of roe does for the table as he dosnt have them in number where he stalks .

So I met him at the local services and after a coffee and chat we headed to a spot where the roe are getting to problem numbers .Wasn’t long before we had the two does in the bag ,second field actually ?so then onto the main event .There’s a small wood near the first perm where I’d seen a very good munty buck and two does together .

By now it had started to rain but there’s a shed on this perm that used to be a paint ball outfit .The shed has a row of bench seats so we sat there until dusk .Several roe came down through the trees to feed on the lush meadow below and right on last knocking the munties showed ,all three .It appeared it was an adult doe and her well grown follower but I’ll not argue otherwise ?

The light was going fast ,the deer were moving fast but  munties arnt the same as roe to stop on a whistle .They invariably bolt if anything unusual happens rather than freezing .On they came just the other side of a patch of brambles until they emerged the other side as the light really was iffy .

The chap said he’d take a doe as that was all he could make out so I said fine and the rifle spoke .Well what transpired then was a travesty beyond words .My client had only head shot a gold medal munty buck and f****d it proper .

He was gutted ,i was gutted so was the muntie after I hung it up in silence .

He said he’s going to pay for it in full but we will see .This morning like a gent he’s paid for everything in full less deposit .What a bummer eh .
