On one hand I see the damage Magpies do to our wild birds . There are just too many of them . A Magpie population that isn’t controlled is no good for anything .
On the other hand , as a fox shooter , sitting out at dusk , waiting for a fox to show . The magpie is my friend and his warning cackling gets the pulse racing and the senses focused. I think it’s one of my favourite sounds .?

Yes, strangely I like to hear the cackle of a magpie, and even though they are one of my least favourite birds, Britain wouldn’t be the same without the bandits in my opinion.?

No tree hugger matey perhaps you aren't as young as you once was to be polite, let me tell you a little story, a long time ago , you couldn't wish to meet a more content and happier chappy than me, out with my dogs n ferrets never taking more from nature than I needed and in return giving my dogs what they needed, then I remember one particular outing , where my mate Nell whippet, was up the arse of a bunny,  the poor bunny was screaming in terror , I will never forget that experience I didn't like it one bit, suppose its because im an owd git, ive had chance of several lurchers as of recent, but health reasons and now the shortage of bunnies I couldn't do the dog justice, im as fit now as I ever will be , but my next dog hopefully will be from Daniel cain , ratting is what im all about now and theres plenty of em

Sounds of the countryside , that got me thinking. Partridges calling on barley stubble,  geese honking in the Autumn ,foxes mating calls in Winter , snipe drumming overhead or grouse shouting go back go back we are really lucky to enjoy our beautiful countryside. Muntjac barking and Sika whistling are all wonderful sounds.

I like the sounds of rooks. We have a rookery near us. A chilly autumnal Sunday afternoon, chopping logs at bottom of our garden, hearing the rooks sorting amongst themselves who's roosting where, with the smell of my missus roast dinner cooking. If only I could bottle that feeling!

I said in my wedding speech that one of main reasons I was marrying her was for the gravy she makes; was only half joking!

Nothing wrong with releasing. Shooting is all about balance. I used to cringe when a certain person said it was his aim to shoot every fox on a piece of land. OK it's different as a professional pest controller as farmers want to see results and foxes eventually re-populate from other areas, but imagine if everyone did it, there'd be none left, no repopulation and no balance. Sometimes it's about judging when something's a pest in an area and when it's simply wildlife. It's like removing every bunny. Farmers aside, who doesn't like to go out on a warm summer's evening and see some rabbits playing in a field. It's important to never lose sight of why we're there and that's to rebalance a broken countryside. Crop and livestock protection are in some ways secondary as they flow from the latter.
