I just find it funny that we think we can travel other planets lol You do know we've been to Mars already Francie, the fact is we don't need to go there in person. Of course, but that's no good, I'm talking about a manned operation to another planet.

I've read that likely it will be the late 2030's. Who knows though what Musky has in mind.

Think of the factors an variables mate, for a manned operation? Even if you managed to get to say mars, there's no oxygen, water etc you couldn't leave the shuttle or whatever, unless total recalls true, an there's a big iceberg under Mars ready to melt an give it oxygen an an atmosphere. Some folk are been led up the garden path with this crack living on another planet.

Pretty much any of them would be possible with the enough R&D and investment. Absolutely no natural laws that prohibit space travel, just technical problems. For the likes of mars, the moon, the largest asteroids in the belt and certain moons of the outer planets the technical hurdles are much more solvable than say interstellar or intergalactic travel. Greyman 32,384
Excuse my ignorance but I thought that earth was slowly moving towards the sun and eventually we will have to move to the next planet for the human race to continue, ???? If that’s right would it be easier or possible to create a suitable atmosphere on the moon or would we really have to get on and boldly go we’re no man has gone before ???? Even if you could travel to say mars, or any other planet in our system, how would you survive without a absoloutley massive construction to provide air an water. Which would be hard even to think of doing. I think folk are being bullshited about travelling to other planets an living on them, it ain't gona happen Isn't it funny how our planets in our system are all completely different, not one the same, how do you think that came about born? By that time we won't need water or air mate. They will shove a battery in us.

I'm not sure what the predicted long term future of Earth and our solar system is mate but I'd say if the earth is buggered then so is the moon that orbits it. I think the moon will be a good base to test colonizing technologies, potentially as a 'port' for larger ships, and also has some potential mining resource value (He3). But I dont think its a realistic alternative to Earth.

Of course colonizing, or even just setting foot on, another body in our solar system would be a huge undertaking! But not all resources need to be taken with us, there is scope for sustainable self sufficiency. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_situ_resource_utilization#Mars Oxygen and water exist in these places, or in some instances the reactants to create them. How do I think planetary differences came about.... astrophysics!
