The cocker is 9 years old and has arthritis in both elbows and I wanted a busher that will happily kill rats as part of a ratting team so spaniel terrier fitted the bill for me ?

Shouldn't talk for the man but...when 90% of your work is catching rabbits, always with nets, you don't need anything more.... well that's how I see it anyway..

My 3/4 x is 8 now, and if my sole game was ferreting rabbits id have exactly that again.....in fact I'm sure I will when the time is right

Wasn't answering for him, just giving my opinion that I thought it was a strange choice of dog if someone isn't into whippets or whippet sized lurchers. ...........but .......... see below

I have owned whippet crosses in the past but for the last ten years or so they didn't suite my terrain and I needed  bigger stronger dogs ( horses for courses ) ...

as kev has said the majority of my work is rabbit catching so no need for big powerful dogs also and most importantly most of my contracts have a decent head of deer on their land and whilst you can take every precaution accidents Will and do happen. But if you've got a little 20 inch 20lb dog running after a deer you have got more chance of explaining it was an accident than you will with a 25 inch 60lb dog that's just pulled one to the ground.

This is how I earn my money pay my mortgage and feed my family and I can't afford to get done for anything ... I would lose all my firearms tickets and pretty much all my government contracts for the sake of an accident on a poxy deer

so the bottom line is the sensible thing to do is downsize the dogs in my kennel to make as sure as I can that an accident doesn't happen ( horses for courses) ......

however if the shivering thin skinned little fukc can't handle the job I will be the first to tell you all ???

Now you've made it clearer as to why you chose your new pup, and very nice too by the way, it makes alot more sense. Like I said in my earlier post, I hope you have some decent luck with this one ?
