Kerny92 1,246
Got a bit of a problem, we moved into our new home in September. Everything was perfect or so we thought. It didn't take long to notice that the neighbours are a pain in the arse. I'm also surprised that an old semi has paper thin walls, you can hear every word next door. The bloke living next door moved out thankgod as they were arguing like mad, the Mrs had to stop me from going around during our first weekend there. Well now he's gone she's decided it's party time, a few month back she was having all nighters. I lost my rag in the middle of the night so confroted two lads who were there and told them to politely go away. I went round the following day and had a word with her, she had her head down and was very sheepish. All as been well for a good month but lastnight she had another all nighter with friends and a few men, well they were at it fighting and screaming at each other. Carrying on like that till 7 am is taking the piss! I've got a young baby at home and the Mrs had to beg me not to go around. I went downstairs and shouted at them and nearly put my fist through the wall. I know what I'm like and I'm on the verge of losing it bigtime, i don't want the hassle and agro. What would you do? The thin walls obviously don't help matters but partying all night like that is taking the piss. I'm trying my best for my girlfriend and daughters sake to hold it together. The lass has 2 young girls of her own so I'm puzzled as what to do.
ChrisJones 7,975
Joking aside put in an official complaint or put up with it. They are the only two options that won't get you on the wrong side of the law. If you keep trying to deal with it yourself she'll eventually get a complaint in about you.

You're right but that's not really me. I'm at least thinking of the bigger picture instead of completely losing the plot. I was so close to doing that though but i know the shit it will bring. If you're not willing to report then you'll either have to accept the noise. Soundproof the walls in between your respective houses. Throw your own all-nighters at the same time. Or move into a retirement community. You don't really have a lot of legal options left.

Yep and just had the room skimmed as well just before Christmas. I should have sacrificed a bit of room space and got the living room and our bedroom done. Having an all-nighter is not really an option with the little one. It's on my mind that much i can hear a penny drop. Don't get me wrong we had a bit of a party for my daughter's first birthday lastnight but we weren't at it till late which is fair enough. Doing it till 7 am though is beyond a joke, she obviously has no respect at all the silly cow. Edited March 25, 2018 by Kerny92

The only other option I could think of would be to approach her about it when she isn't pissed or hungover and say you're alright with the noise but could you tone it down after dark because of the little one. It's a shitty compromise but if you're not going to go full observe and report the options are few. You could redecorate and insulate the rooms you spend the most time in. I've been there mate, and the only option that worked for us was eventually moving away. Everyone complained. The police showed up once a month but they still kept throwing the parties right up until I f*ck*d off out of the country. The only noisy neighbours I have now are the coyotes and I actually quite like them winding all the neighbourhood dogs up when they run through the yards. Bottom line, I guess, is that if you don't like your situation you have to change it.

Bottom line, I guess, is that if you don't like your situation you have to change it. I did mate a month or two ago and she had her head down as she could see i was not happy. It's been fine for over a month barring hearing her screaming at the kids. The kids are just as bad but that's fair enough, can't be helped. I can bet that's why the last couple have moved out as they had a young child as well. I've never known walls so thin, didn't expect that at all being a 50's or 60's semi, just shows that not all older houses are built better. I'm sure you can put an appeal in if the old homeowners didn't notify me of the problem? Edited March 25, 2018 by Kerny92

Even if you could you'd have to prove it was a problem at the time. Easier typed out than done and if legal recourse is an option what will it cost you and what will you gain even if you're successful?
Greyman 32,035
I think in the uk, if you sell a house with a problem nieghbour and fail to notify the new owner you are liable to pay back a percentage of the price, but that would need a record of complaints prior to the sale either by the seller or other neighbours, I would also advise restraint because worse case you could end up neighbours for years and it's very easy to become a bit obsessed over these things and end up dishing out a disproportionate response, start keeping a log of it as well because if you ever make a complaint they will want records, so best be ahead of the game, goodluck with it whatever you do, I feel your pain
