philpot 5,082
My pal and myself had a trip around the estate to locate where the crows were doing the damage, only a few showing themselves but duly noted for a session by my pal tomorrow. He had been given a folding 28 gauge single barrel folding shotgun (poachers gun) many many years ago and had never fired it so tonight was the first time out, I missed a crow with it as I noted that my thumb was on top of the barrel, my normal hold on my o/u shotguns but on this little gun, my hand almost went all around the forend and barrel. We then went over to an area with old barns where the rabbits had done a great deal of damage to the barley but only one showed itself which my pal took a shot at, first in the bag. My Impact remained silent. The estate has little roads running all over the place so I kept the Impact on my lap as we drove very slowly around. I saw a couple of rabbits up ahead so I got out of the car and quietly walked up to a fork in the road where they had gone. As I peered around the hedge, there were three rabbits in the road about 6' apart, Tripod up, .25 fac sat on the tripod, three shots, three dead rabbits. My pal drove up to me as we walked over to collect the bunnies and I lasered the distance at 54mt so my guess at 60mt was not so far away. I confess that my head swelled a fair bit as I have never shot three together like that before. I had thought of fitting a mod on the gun but after those three shots, I am not going to bother. Every rabbit hit by the Impact .25 fac results in an instant kill, no jumping or flipping, just falls over dead. perhaps it is just a coincidence but it seems to be the case as I have found it. Another few hundred mt and another rabbit popped out and a clean head shot put him on his back. I am not really a rabbit shooter but where problems exist, I shoot them and give them away as neither my pal's family and mine do not eat them but we think we have a butcher who will take them from us which pleases me no end. A couple more chances at rabbits resulted in clean misses as the light was starting to drop making the contrast between the rabbit and road edge was quite difficult to see. I had taken the NiteSite but as we were not staying very long, I could not be bothered to set it up. A really pleasant evening with little owls, barn owls and a tawney owl all seen on the farm estate. No photo's guys, I had left my phone in my car back at the estate office while we went around in my pal's baby 4x4, next time if I remember which most of the time I don't. Phil 8 Quote Link to post

philpot 5,082
Thanks guys The Impact is sitting at 50fpe and the .25 has superb knock down power with a super flat trajectory which has been a surprise although I have not done any real testing beyond 65mt but this new perm has some perfect out of the wind areas that I can experiment on longer distances. To give you an idea of how flat, zero at 25mt, half milldot at 65mt which makes life pretty easy. I love this Impact. Phil 1 Quote Link to post

Phil Nice going, could I suggess a rethink on fitting the mod, rabbits learn quickly and being quiet is very important .......after a few trips these rabbits just like all rabbits will know once they hear anything thats not nomal to run & hide . 2 Quote Link to post
philpot 5,082
To be honest the Impact is very quiet and certainly quieter than the Rapid. I will look into a mod but it is not so simple as FX have a complete barrel shroud and mod combined at a price but I need to compare the noise with a normal sub 12 to get a comparison. I have not asked anyone else to fire it while I am down range which is the next step to see what the noise level is really like. The jury is out on this one as yet. Dave. I zero at 25mt simply because my rfd has a 25mt indoor range and I pop in there several times a week so easy to check zero. I may well take it out to 50mt as zero now that I have some better area to do tests in but the East Coast is highly prone to wind so getting the day with no wind for testing is not so easy. Phil I found myself in the same postion after buying my air rifle which also has a full barrel shroud and built in mod ,the guy in the shop told me not to bother getting the after factory mod at the time .I didnt notice that it made any level of noise at all, in fact I thought it was nice and quiet but found after several trips to my permission when I had shot one of several rabbits sitting out together, the others would move off, once they heard the report ,so I started to look up you tube at videos showing the type of my rifle firing with and without the extra mod even though I wasnt 100% sure I decided to buy one .What Ive found is there is quite a marked differents when I fire the Aas510 without the extra mod so Im pleased I did so .Ive put more game in the bag as a result .People have also remarked they hear next to nothing down range in fact they dont even know Im shooting which keeps everybody happy .You have made a great choice on the cal and make of rifle ,once you master it with more use Im sure you will be very pleased .ATB Edited July 21, 2017 by toolebox Quote Link to post

bigmac 97kt 13,826
If you could stop the noise of the pellet hitting the rabbit then you would be worth a fortune as the impact noise is what scares most of them away not the rifle . atvbjimmy  1 Quote Link to post
