Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Nuttall stuff was renowned for it one time . Looked bad but never bothered the dog .If it's along the rib mind it means the rib gas been broken at some time and calcified. 1 Quote Link to post

Looked bad but never bothered the dog .If it's along the rib mind it means the rib gas been broken at some time and calcified. She badly broke her front leg last year.running as fast as she could then front leg went down a rabbit hole and damaged her shoulder ligaments aswell.Maybe it's from an excess of calcium as her body repaired the leg. And deposited it on her rib. It's right on the end like a small uneven extension on the rib. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
My ridgeback has had one exactly like that since she was a pup. The vet called it a "floating rib." Never been a problem. Quote Link to post
king 12,030
Thanks for that walshie. Sounds like it's quite a common thing. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Don't know why it's called floating as it doesn't float. Quote Link to post
Daniel cain 48,888
King my dogs from bud/barney all have an extra rib on the one side mate-you can see it on the smooths but not the roughs-I'd say it's nothing to worry about.atb dc 2 Quote Link to post
onion jonny 527
Don't know why it's called floating as it doesn't float. its not connected to the sternum like the other twelve pair. Quote Link to post
dillydog 8,517
Most of the the Stevens terriers have it, I've always called it a short rib, i must of heard it somewhere when i was still listening to other people 2 Quote Link to post
THE GENERAL 1,982
Don't know why it's called floating as it doesn't float. a floating rib is generally a rib or part that's broken off from the rest so isn't attached anymore. Can be very painful I'm lead to believe. Quote Link to post
