Gutted Pup Broke Leg

was out ratting yesterday and my ten month old patterdale shattered his front leg on a metal sheet

he,s in the vets now there going to remove it this morning. he is getting it removed this morning he,s

had over 200 rats already has anyone seen a dog with its front leg removed if so how well could they

get about.

He must of done some serious damage to the bones to remove the leg.

Last year the jrt/border bitch here.was chasing the runners down the field leg went into a rabbit hole.leg snapped like a twig they casted it for 6 odd weeks then had to pin if from the outside she right now.

But as trap said they adjust to it quite well.

I've known of some very good terriers that were still being dug too after loosing a leg and with ratting the terrier will probably learn to use it's brain to compensate for lack of speed.

Out of curiosity, did the vet give the option of putting the terrier down or did they just tell you they were taking the leg off ?

no they gave me the option of the operation to fix it with plates and pins but said it probably wouldn,t work

and would need off anyway at some point. they said about putting him down but i felt i owed it to him to try

other methods first he was gifted from really good digging dogs and got his first rat at 16 weeks old my sister

says if he struggles with anything he can go and live with her
