Whats the lads name mate i,ll keep an eye out........number of young boxers im very high on but i prefer to put my money where my mouth is with such youngsters so will keep them to myself at this stage :D.....football wise i watched the son of a friend of a friend play a few years ago and said he would go places Joey Powell he,s had a few games in the West Ham development squad and im told could break through to the senior squad very soon......i can normally pick out boxing talent but footie its just common sense and guesswork for me.

My mates young lad is off to dubai to play in a football tournament next month-he's a natural athlete, any sport- his grandfather played rugby for Wales, his brother was England's goalkeeping coach-welsh man coaching England pmsl, his dad's brother plays rugby for Swansea, and other uncle played gwent dragons.to watch him he is something else,I honestly believe he will be a future name.so much so I got a few hundred riding on it ;).atb dc

Funny thing is Daniel my mates family are not really sport orientated , yes they watch a bit of PL football on Tele but there's no sporting (football) history in the family .

Edited to add my mate was a distance runner as a kid & done well a trait his son has got as he's some engine on him !!

My oldest son is a very keen soccer player and many people who know more than me about the game think if he keeps at it he could go places. He is a very good sprinter and cross country runner in athletics and the mix of speed and endurance seems to suit soccer perfectly. I never played or followed soccer until he started playing, he just has a natural love of the game. I have no expectations and he is only 12 years old but as long as he keeps giving it his best I will do all I can to help keep him improving.

Always good to hear about younguns going places.

My mates lad is only 13 and he's been scouted by some sort of "football skills" group in Manchester. He's been up there and also been up to burnley for them to look at him and now there's talks of him going to L.A.

I'm not sure how far it could take him but he's loving it at the moment...

The thing is everyone only talks about "that one who made it", but in reality when your throw thousands of kids at a sports programme , 99% of them won't make it and the top 1% go through!

There's loads of people out there who could possibly have been a pro at random or weird sports but never even tried them, it's a funny old world!

That's a good point Lloyd. When you see these professional rowers, gymnasts, darts players or anything else really. Just imagine how many people have never even tried them things but would be a natural at them.

I've seen lads start boxing at 20 and been a natural, just imagine if they started at 12-13 or younger.

On the other hand there are people who keep trying and trying at something they're never gonna be brilliant at but persevere because they love it, knowing they're never gonna get very far with it. Like me and boxing. Lol.

It is a funny old world deffo.
