There's no mistaking my Romany lineage... My nickname at school was Abdul lol

Well seems as my daughter has her honours in anthropology and now works for a company designing cutting edge dna testing equipment I think I will go with what she says lol.

Mitochondrial eve whose dna we all share.... Except neems of course

Strange the talk on here about genetic physicality , my misses greatcgreat great grandad returned from America with a native american wife in tow, when my misses hair remains undyed and reverts back to her natural colour she looks like she could have stepped of the set of last of the mohicans

Additionally although slightly different , if you look at the Scottish border locality from Gretna across to the North Sea , the concentration of the same surnames in this place hadn't changed in nearly 500 years

Not many places can claim that

From bells , armstrongs and nixons in the west to Charlton musgrave fenwick foster in the east , it's so surreal it can't surely be the same everywhere

No mate, their definition of Western Europe, as a genetically identifiable population group is broadly France/Germany/Belgium/Denmark/Holland/Switzerland.

Spain and Portugal is classed separately as the Iberian Peninsula and Poland/Ukraine is Eastern Europe I believe. Similarly Finland is lumped in with Western Russia as another European group.

The W.Europe group and GB group are very closely linked and often natives from either group share a lot genetically with the other.

It shows the 26 groups here on their website (click on 'See all 26 ethnic regions' on the left half way down);

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/dna/

There's a degree of overlap of course as population groups (what they wrongly call ethnicity) aren't completely separable.

Yes to both of you.

So likely 50% German, I'd be happy with that if I was you. Where you have this done and what is the error percentage?

I'm not unhappy with it, but I wasn't doing it for any racial purity reasons, LOL. My family is strongly focused in the E.Mid's, historically bang in the middle of the Angle kingdoms and the Danelaw and a few other things made me curious as to our history. I wanted to see if this test reflected any of the regions history with relatively (to my knowledge) few of my ancestors coming from out of the E.Mid's.

It was the Ancestry.com test. :thumbs:

The errors seem massive to me. So for instance it says I'm 40% W.European in the range of 5-75%! LOL. I'm not sure how they have calculated these errors. Perhaps there's say a 90% chance of the true answer being 5% either side of the estimate and 10% chance of it being beyond that in the extremes. Or maybe they haven't a clue but know it is certainly somewhere between 5 and 75. Similarly it says I'm 12% Irish (read Celtic) in the range of 1-24%.

I dunno basically which just comes back to treating this as a broad estimate, not as a precise analysis.

on there web page under FAQ it asks how accurate is the test and it does not tell you I think for £80 it sounds a bit of a rip off it seems more of a guesstimate to me
