bird 10,014
Have a look max, not looking good at all, wonder if it will come over to the UK in time, if it does you will loose a great breed, and prob it use in lurcher breeding long term. the gripe over there is that healthy dogs are been put down,if deemed to slow . you think they try to rehome them, like they try to do over here. i worked at a racing kennels in south staffs, and he the owner always tried dam hard to rehome is injured and older dogs, he had open kennels every sunday for people to look at the dogs . it will be a sad day if they ban the sport, as greyhounds love to run against each other ,just for the hell of it, like whippets do , hope it dont happen here . http://www.smh.com.a...707-gq0fw3.html Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,065
The way I read it the gripe was that they reckoned that 20 percent of trainers were live baiting. In my opinion any dog that won't chase a lure is not worth persisting with as a racer anyway and should just be rehomed. Edited July 12, 2016 by Maximus Ferret Quote Link to post

jeemes 5,331
Is it me or are there more non chasers about nowadays..Any dog would benefit from using its teeth now and again or even just seeing a rabbit run,but tethering a rabbit live to the lure and running it around the schooling track is a bit much, and lets face it if you make that the norm then no wonder track dogs keep going off form and needing more kills..Problem is too higher grades are expected. You could have a grand game little dog that would run through fire for a rag and never need a kill, but if that dog cant do a stupidly high grading time and is deemed too slow it would never see the track in public. Imo that type of dog should be being bred from, after all what does it matter what the times are if the dogs are graded? Quote Link to post
Silversnake 1,099
It is a very sad state of affairs here. I am not sure if this ban will go through but the yuppie, spineless, misguided excuse of a leader of this state (NSW) has announced it as fact. I have relatives who race and breed greyhounds and it sickens me to think that this fool will try to enforce a ban and act so righteous and ethical while callously destroying peoples livelihoods and social structures. This $hit has to stop, and will stop, it is just a matter of where because if greyhounds are banned who knows what is next. This is an attack that will not stop but it is an attack from a weak and ill informed enemy, while fanatical can still easily be seen off. Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Whilst I am dead against a ban on any form of greyhound racing I can see why and how they've managed to do this ... There's lots of video evidence out there showing unscrupulous trainers tying live animals to lures and there was also programme on the tv last year showing the mass doping that goes on in the racing industry in oz ... This tied in with the fact that they can prove how many healthy dogs are destroyed each year will help them no end ... The greyhound industry in Australia needs to clean up its act dramatically if it wants to survive ......... 1 Quote Link to post

VOON 1,317
They kill more horses than dogs, one guess whats next Can't see them banning horse racing, too many city folk like getting pissed at it and shagging their asses off.....but your right greyhound racing would be a poor relation and the first step towards it. pesky1972 5,685
Easy answer.., greyhounds or horses. Eat the slow ones. What can they do then? Quote Link to post
Silversnake 1,099
Easy answer.., greyhounds or horses. Eat the slow ones. What can they do then?I am not %100 sure but someone told me we used to send ex racing greyhounds to Macau supposedly for the table and even made a tidy profit on the trade but the practice was banned for ethical reasons. As I said this is unverified just a friend told me today but if true that logic isn't good enough for the powers that be pesky. Quote Link to post
Silversnake 1,099
Not sure of particulars and only posted as I had the conversation this morning coincidentally. He seemed very certain though and I have heard a similar story years ago. Quote Link to post
