Breaking news just flashed on my phone, 20 school kids missing on the Beacons. Hope everybody is found safe and well, it's got to be pretty bleak up there today too.

Is it that desolate up there that a simple helicopter wouldnt have them found in a few hours ?......i mean this is the Brecon Beacons we,re talking about not the Sahara !

If that's the case, hope they get to them asap. Just heard a couple are suffering mild hypothemia. Parents nightmare.

Helicopter as found them but can't land so rescuers are heading there by foot, that's the last update.

Missing schoolchildren spotted from helicopter

The group of missing schoolchildren has been spotted from a helicopter, Brecon Mountain Rescue have said.

 

Mountain rescue volunteers are making their way to the site on foot as the helicopter is unable to land, they said.

 

A spokesman said: "I can confirm that three South Wales mountain rescue teams have been called to search for a group of 20 missing school children in the Dan yr Ogof area.

 

"A recent update from incident control has advised that the MCGA rescue helicopter from St Athan has spotted the group and is unable to land but that mountain rescue volunteers are making their way to the site on foot."

Dan yr ogof is just up the road from where I was brought up ... Not really a mountain more of a big hill ... Still not a nice place to be in this weather .......

Update.

 

Dyfed Powys Police says a group has been found in the Brecon Beacons in the search for a party of missing schoolchildren - but cannot say if everyone has been accounted for.

We have been informed that a group has been located and the helicopter has landed with them.

 

But at this stage, they have not been removed from the mountain, and we cannot confirm that all in the group are accounted for.
