Ossie n Arch 1,683
Had my 18lb Korda Super natural braid hooklength part again last night, thats twice in a week. Both times it went about 8-10 inches from the hook. The first time I let the fish go a bit, last night I held on a bit more. Same result both times. The cut on the first break was clean, last nights was only slightly frayed. I'm not that experianced with braid. I use 3 foot of it, a hair tyed to an size 8 Drennan hook with a knotless knot, then a overhand knot with a rig sleeve over a quick change swivel at the other end and thats it. I spoke to one of the guys who catches a few on the Dove the other night, and he mentioned Pike. Surley a Pike wouldn't have time to get the Boilie that far down it's throat before it bit through the braid, or am I just un-lucky enough to hook a Pike twice in a week ?? Could it be a bad spool ?? Iv'e not only lost confidence in the braid, Iv'e lost two potencial big Barbel. Any thoughts ?? Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
I hate braid, (over rated) it's weak when it comes to snags ect cuts too easy for my liking Quote Link to post
Fieldsporthunter 1,864
As katchum says or Fish took it right down and cut braid with pads in back of its mouth but I can t see it happening twice. Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
Was issues with some of the korda hooklength a few years back but think that was down to knots. Could it be a mussel bed? Edited June 25, 2016 by treecreeper Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,683
Umm, I don't know. Surely if it was a rock or snag, the braid would be frayed?? Just seems strange for it to go in the middle. Thanks for the replies though. Quote Link to post
TeDuke 276
It could quite possibly be a pike, were you using flouro pop ups?? Reason I ask is I've caught a few pike on flouro pop ups while fishing for carp, kyrston braid I've found to be best and up the strength to 25lb, me personally I'd bin that Korda shite if it's gone twice as I wouldn't be confident with it, get some kyrston mantis in 25lb get the colour that best matches what your fishing over and have another go 1 Quote Link to post

I wont be using the Korda again, as you say, no confidence in it any more. Off to tackle shop soon to get replacement. Be interesting to see what that angling god Walshie has to say about the matter though.................... 1 Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,683
Just done some high tech testing in the shed of the braid in my tackle box. Very interesting to say the least. 18lb Korda Gravel brown colour broke at 18lb 15lb Fox went at 7lb 15lb ESP went at 14lb 20lb ESP went at 19lb 14lb Kryston supersilk went at 10lb 15lb Double strength mono went at 13lb after stretching a lonnnnnnnng way. 12lb Drennan sinkbraid went at 12lb And the 18lb Korda I've been using, the weed green colour broke at 12lb ESP it is then. stealthy1 3,964
Maybe a Catfish? Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
Not that I've fished properly for years, but I've never really seen the point in braid. I bet you didn't get broken up that often with mono. Quote Link to post
toby63 1,236
any mussels in the water you know of. are you fishing a silty bottom or weedy area for using a 3ft hooklengh? Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,683
I was under impression they were always higher than stated?? Maybe it is over rated and catches more gullible fisher men than fish lol daft question, but is stored anywhere dodgy? Real hot, real cold, anything that could affect it that way or is it old? It's been in my tackle box inside a rucksac in the garage. Quote Link to post

No Mussels that i know of. The river has a clay bottom in the swim i've been in, gravel runs else where. I think the braid I've been using is just over stated. Quote Link to post
