Tail Docking Terriers In Ireland

Recommended Posts

i know there are quite a few irish lads on this site, just asking whats the law in the north and south regarding docking pups tails, the reason that i ask is i have noticed on done deal, that terrier pups and spaniel pups are all undocked, have they followed like england, scotland, andwales, sad state of affairs if they have, another useless piece of legislation, like alot of other lads used to do all my own beforewith no hassle, supposed to be barbaric,so is what happens to the tails of undocked working dogs

Donedeal won't accept adds that pups with dock tails, even if the pups have vet certs stating it has been done legally by a vet

That's true. Tail docking by law must be done by a vet but the vets have said they wont dock tails.

There's confusion over it too as I know one Springer Spaniel owner who was told by a vets nurse to bring his pup home as he had to it himself.

He wouldn't believe me until I showed him the law on paper.

I presume you can still do lamb and bonham tails though.

Yeah it sure is a different story when it comes lambs. A great way to keep fit though chasing the little shit about the field and getting the rings on them. Its six to one for some half dozen to the other different law for some, different law for the other .

From what i have been told the biggest reason the vets dont want to dock tails is the paper work that goes with it and that came straight from a vet.A mate of mine went last year to a vet to get a litter of ess docked and she refused on the grounds that if the pups were going over the water to new homes the amount of paper work she would have to do was not worth the hassle.
