mackem 30,063
Theres a brit guy just been killed in thailand on koh samui, had a pleasure ride on an elephant, the handler dismounted to take a pic of the brit and his step-daughter on the elephants back when the creature became bad tempered and trampled and gored the tourist to death, thats several tons of enraged pachyderm, there was a case in thailand last year where an elephant killed its handler and ran off with 3 chinese tourists still seated on its back, must have been horrific, its not uncommon for them to get arsey for whatever small reason and turn on their handlers. walshie 2,804
Can't understand it myself. Having to walk up and down all day while being poked with a stick or a metal hook. Sounds lovely.

They dont go a bundle on health and safety,i went to a tiger temple over there,i think theres around 120? adult tigers walking around, the only safety guidelines we were given was dont wear red, dont wear shorts, and dont make sudden movements likely to alarm the tigers?

There's the answer right there.I still don't get people these days that pay to ride elephants or have their pics took with tigers or apes at holiday resorts.

mackem 30,063
That tiger temple is a bit dicey, its supposedly a sanctuary for tigers, but the guy in charge was badly mauled by one of the cats last year, and the year before a british girl was savaged by a cat that grabbed her theough the thigh. forest of dean redneck 12,023
I read this morning that the handler had got down to take their photos ,and it swatted him then gored him, before the tourist. There was a sign in the news ,they did ox cart races and other stuff, The major holiday companies stopped providing elephant rides as they knew that the elephants were ill treated. Did an elephant ride into chitwan looking for tigers, went in on foot as well but to do the river crossing its best to ride, rode one up to the pink palace in jaipur, and did one last year to get up to bakheng in the angkor complex, just getting from A-B,they are modes of transport, just like camels or horses,in some countries.
dodger 3,590
Wow sounds epic that Mackem I did a camel safari in Rajasthan which I loved but went round Angkor on the back of a moped lol.. There both real uncomfortable to ride tho I think, feel like I'm gunna fall off the elephant at any time especially if goin down a slope lol and a camel leaves ya with balls like water melons.. Some of the colours they paint on the elephants that you sometimes see look good I think n don't think the elephant minds to much..
