low plains drifter 11,308
I worked in the greyhound kennels at brough park in the early nineties, and they were fed on a mixture of red meat, dry food, bread, two powders went into the mix, one was white and the other black, at a guess i would say they were bonemeal and charcoal, but could have been something else, this all went into a metal dustbin, which then went under a boiling pot full of meaty marrow bones, and when the tap was turned a light gravy came out, and the dogs were fed while it was piping hot and the food was well soaked, never saw any cowpats in their paddocks either 1 Quote Link to post

peterbirdman1 206
I personally like to use veg frankel but just my choice. i also believe they do benefit from it and it's all free. By mincing it in with the meat even the fussiest eater can't pick it out Quote Link to post

To be honest I have fed it now and again to the pup and she loves it. What veg is best? Quote Link to post

I've currently got mine on the bigger chunks but i prefer the small stuff. And I always soak it otherwise they seem to drink a pan or 2 of water easy. Plus I always find it easy, when at work all day if I forgot about taking the frozen meat out I can easy give it to them quick. Quote Link to post

jeemes 5,380
Cooking for your dogs or preparing the grub is part of the bond I think. The other thing is how do people know by feeding all in ones that they are getting the same out of there dogs, its hard to tell without sophisticated timing equipment, and what about a dogs happiness.A happy dog works better and what dog would choose to eat bag food when he could get some proper meat and veg. If all you can be bothered with is opening a bag you are missing a part of keeping working dogs. Peter that grub looks top stuff mate. 1 Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
When ever Iv been abit stuck for meat I try to feed abit of dry, but soon as I do I notice a change in attitude, more worked up, too much energy. Some would say that'll benefit in field, but don't be fooled because o find he has less stamina and pants a lot more off simply a bit of dried. So if the dog was fed just dried then I dread to think. Iv fed "grain free" it's called, and another high meat n veg content food, gain 28 etc and all of them have been more or less the same as far as heating up quicker and being hyper. Stick to my meat n bones, abit of veg from time to time, natural yogurts and lard 1 Quote Link to post

king 12,038
That programme on a while ago the hunt I think it was showed wild dogs with amazing stamina catching some type of beast can't remember what it was now. But like I've said before on here with Wolves etc when they have a litter no vet goes out and worms them.the same with the wild dogs they don't get wormed.and the adults don't ever get wormed. They are simply brought up on the right diet and thats it. It's true what they say everything man touches he fecking wrecks and I believe that. Put simply wolves or wild dogs don't get veg either raw or cooked.but they do graze a few Berrys when they are in season. I would rather take the veg out and replace with either fat or flesh. But if you want to feed veg then that's up to you.i think they are only good for feeding an over weight dog to help it lose weight. 2 Quote Link to post
peterbirdman1 206
Hi King as for veg there are vitamins and minerals in them. it's just my choice. When you see wild dogs, wolves and such they go into the stomach first and get a lot of part digested vegetation from their prey. As for the worming and such wild animals have a lot shorter life then domesticated animal and we are here to make our work mates life a bit better Quote Link to post
