walshie 2,804
I tried tying an old white tee-shirt on a rope on the back of the quad yesterday and driving up and down a field to give the pup a run. He wasn't interested at first, but after a couple of passes he was flat out after it each time. When I stopped he was killing the tee-shirt and it was quite hard to take it off him. When I untied it later, it was obvious I'd towed it through fox shit or piss as it stunk of reynard. Even when I chucked it in the dustbin, he managed to drag it out and rag it all over the garden. Would he do this whatever it smelt of or have I caused problems for later? Don't want him chasing a fox when I'm out for a bunny for dinner do I? Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
There's plenty of dogs that wont look at a fox but love their shit, especially rolling in it. Ragging that dummy will definitely make sure your pup will retrieve bunnies, LOL. 1 Quote Link to post

There is one reason in the quote above. Get some discipline into him before you start letting him chase. Can you imagine the state of a rabbit after he has stopped ragging it? Won't even be fit for ferret food. TC 2 Quote Link to post
Guest Navek
Dout the pup ragging on a shit stained T shirt will cause it to rag rabbits . Plenty of mates and myself have had pups were they have had a mouth like a vice on fox and soft on rabbit. ... I've always tried to get pups to play abit of tug o war at the young age think it brings them out and boost confidence Quote Link to post

Somewhereyournot 1,117
Seen a decent dog catch n kill the sharp end and in the next field retrieve a rabbit live, don't think it matters to be honest. My dog here used to shake hell into everything as a pup, but every rabbit he's caught all been alive Quote Link to post
