gnasher16 31,416
You think those street gym things will close alot of gyms gnash? I honestly thought a problem would be those huge gyms that open up n charge next to nothing. The street gyms the things been built in the parks? Old area has one and its got a few bits but wouldnt of thought it would even come close to an actual gym. Maybe something different from what your on about or maybe im wrong. They already are......from a business point of view it was a fantastic idea and the family who started it have done very well as their customers range from government departments,to schools and colleges to local authorities......they are being built in to the development of community projects all over the world and being manufactured purely in Britain its a brilliant company......if you are in London you must have seen how many strong fit young lads who were previously hanging around street corners are now hanging around outdoor gyms, hence the government are all over it.......it also means the " spur of the moment " types who are probably going to pack it in within a few months dont need to join gyms and get their first basic fitness experience for nothing.....so yes it hurts gyms but it was always coming......no obviously they are no good to your dedicated bodybuilder or fitness fanatic types but thats not who they are aimed at.......health/fitness is a massively growing industry but its probably had its day for the single gym owner......an old friend of mine who owns Bodyworks in Tottenham which is an iconic gym in certain circles has had his gym membership down 40% since a Gogc was put into the local park. dare 1,103
Yeah have honestly seen people get bigger and often just on the bars using their body weight. Move around on the things almost like a gymnast lol face down at the floor n pulling themselves up and everything. Just thought people would still prefer a gym and itll be the huge places where membership is dirt cheap thatll cause other gyms problems. Suppose if people can get bigger and its free then its a no brainer, the "rougher" areas if you like seem to be more busy for the outdoor gyms aswell. Dont know if its because they dont have much to do but looks like some really get into it.
gnasher16 31,416
Its not about getting big its just about health/fitness awareness and trying to fit it into our everyday lives on a " prevention is better than cure " basis.......the equipment in those parks has to be safe, simple and maintenance free but it is still very well designed and built to incorporate most basic gym movements and get people heading in the right direction while also creating a friendly atmosphere through a common bond amongst as you say what are in many cases rough people from rough neighborhoods.......i think its a brilliant concept if i was 20/30 years younger id be quite jealous from a business point of view Edited October 25, 2015 by gnasher16
WILF 49,889
A lad who buys a bit of kit off me owns a couple of gyms but he incorporates martial arts and boxing into them as well as dedicated body building. He has a very nice Bentley so he must be doing something right !! Haha His personality probably helps as he is a really nice bloke, he has a solar company too but he loves his bodybuilding and martial arts and seems to have turned his passion into a nice little business. Its the way a lot of gyms are having to go Wilf......it also works the other way......even a traditional old boxing gym like The Peacock in Canning Town now has public fitness sessions, bodybuilding, mma etc etc......the proper old spit and sawdust bodybuilding gyms where only bodybuilders went are struggling now if they dont incorporate the basic trend of health/fitness..........in past years a bodybuilder wouldnt walk into a boxing gym if he wasnt in the know and a boxer wouldnt walk into a hardcore bodybuilding gym but times are changing societies pressures in terms of what we look and feel like is putting a different demand on the fitness industry, there are parts of East London now where there are almost as many gyms as pubs.....and thats the changes in societies mentality.
leegreen 2,247
If you can source good fish, regular and are prepared to do specials then you're on to a winner in the right place. By specials I mean something different and seasonal. Hake, Rock eel (Dog fish), White Bait (one of mine and my sons fav), etc. There are many overlooked fish that are nice if fresh and cooked properly. If you managed to get a shop in the right area the you could do things a bit more pricey, Monk fish, Sole, Halibut, there are loads of ways of making the great British favourite make you money. "Proper" mushy peas are good, home made Tartar sauce is lovely. The way the food market is today anything good with fresh ideas will make you money, but as said before location is key. Good luck mush.
