Chicken_man 1,651
Considerably bigger. Are they still kicking about? I read the other day that they are much easier to breed if the cock bird is raised with chicks/bantys from the word go, as they believe themselves to be Bantys/chickens themselves Would make more sense I suppose than trying to use a wild one! Does the hybrid itself breed? Or are they sterile? Just wondering. Would be good to follow the progress as it all happens if you go ahead with it. I love this sort of thing, traditional type things. Hoping to raise a few pheasant nxt yr in the traditional manner broodys, broody pens etc. Atb
random 659
Don't keep poultry but this caught my eye and made me wonder, what advantages does this cross offer in terms of meat and egg production? Interesting read so far by the way...

I would imagine the main reason to use a tame cock pheasant is that it will be calmer around people. my cock pheasant was wild caught.I had the impression that once he was in breeding condition and the joys of spring kicked-in he wasn't particularly fussy what he mated. I've actually seen a cock pheasant mounting a road-kill hen!

Mr Wilkes 2,963
Years ago I used to keep Spanish game and a hen pheasant used to come to the yard and feed , she was mated by any stag that was out on his tether. She then disappeared. Later that summer the dog put up some poults in a local wood that just looked different if you know what I mean, I often wonder if they were Spanish x pheasant.
