How Much To Feed A Puppy

Recommended Posts

Is that all he is getting? Chicken mince alone won't be as balanced a diet as it would if he was getting variety of meat and offal, bit of brown bread, or cooked brown rice, and some finely minced raw veg.

As for the amount, I feed a pup of that age 3 meals a day, soon going down to 2 at around 8 or 9 weeks old depending on how much it eats at a sitting. Pups generally tell you if they are being fed too often when they start picking at their midday meal. Feed the pup as much as it will eat in about 5 minutes, providing it isn't a complete pig and blows itself out at each meal. Normal pups slow down and stop when they feel comfortably full.

That's what he was eating. I didn't want to change things till he was fully settled (which he seems to be now.)

Interesting I used to feed about 4 meals a day ,then by time it's about 6-9 months be on 2 a day then 1 meal around year old.

But as above get some different meat in as well, chickens lean, you want some variety.

Myself personally don't mind bit of weight on a pup as you can get it leaner an tighten it up when it's older/sapling with exercise/road walking.

I'm going to gradually change mine to complete puppy food, but as I've got 44lb of mince in the freezer, it might take a while.

I'll give him some brown bread, veg and sardines in addition to his mince till then.
