Answering the original question (I'm sure somebody already has, resoundingly so) so this will serve as a reiteration.

Was Jesus God or merely the son of God?? The bible itself answers that questions again and again.

To those who know the bible you'll know that "I AM" is the name of God, see below.

God said to Moses, " I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" (Exodus 3:14 NASB)

The Pharisees when questioning Jesus about who He was claiming to be "So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am."

Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple. (John 8:57-59 NASB)

Picked up stones ? To kill him - they knew exactly who he was claiming to be.

Quoting the bible is not helpful , I can read ... Some of it is clear as mud to me.

You see the thing is chaps the old bible was written by HUMAN BEINGS, and so they put exactly what they wanted in it, a fantastic and very well thought out way of subjugating the common people, and making them bend under the heel of the new Roman empire, simple as that, shite.

In all fairness Charlie the bible has nothing to do with the Roman empire.

Not a dig Francie, but the other day you said "jesus was a real person, seen by real people" which implies these people wrote about jesus in the bible....when the facts are there was no mention of jesus in the bible until 140 AD......... :hmm: So nobody who could have actually seen jesus wrote anything about him......they relied on hearsay.............not very convincing is it?

If libraries and bookshops didn't have a religious section, what category would you put the bible in? The occult? science fiction, or just plain old fiction?

Boys, you've heard our answers before on these matters - it seems the same old fellas are coming back with the same old objections.

The Bible was penned by men in the Spirit of God, the 3rd personage of the one triune God. I've always thought of it like this - God's hand uses a man for pen.

The canon of scripture: this is the event where a counsel headed by Polycarp decided what books, gospels and letters where compiled together to make what we now know as The Bible.

There was strict criteria for what was considered, internal and external verification was needed. Externally, an apostolic signature. Internally, did look like the work of an apostle. If yes and yes it would have been considered.

An apostle was someone who had seen and conversed with Jesus. The New Testament was either compiled by apostles or close associates of apostles like Polycarp.

Great care would have been taken, the Jews where known for the meticulousness! That's why the Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, though written by four different men to different social groups including Jews, Romans, Greeks, Gentiles, do not contradict each other.

Mate say what you want I'm not going to shout abuse at you, cause you disagree, lol

Jesus was prophecies many times in the old testament, the first in genisis, when God says, I will put emnity between thy seed an her seed, it shall bruise thy head, an you shall bruise thy heel.

Jesus is the woman's seed.

But if you want to talk name, well Matthew 1,1 when Jesus is mentioned, an it was penned between, 55 as 65 SD, what are you saying then truther that. Mat mark Luke John, etc, didn't know Jesus an made it all up.

You any evidence for this claim mate

So men decided what went in and what to leave out............my point exactly. "gods hand uses men for pen" that's an opinion, what you believe, it don't mean squat mate..............Don't get me wrong, believe what you want, that's not my gripe at all........My objection is to the way you put it over.....as fact.......when its unproven fiction.........and while i'm at it...........i can walk off and not debate it..........but i don't want this fiction being taught to my grandkids as a reality.........shameful.

Its all made up imo.........so it sort of goes without saying that i think the jesus character is fictional, or at best some holy man who fitted the bill, bit of editing/storytelling and hey presto "son of god" It's all edited mate, the gospels and everything else, written by different people as FM say's........The bible is the height of fiction, even more so because people actually believe it.........puts Gene Roddenberry to shame, even though there's probably more truth in Star Trek

There's loads of "evidence" just google "did jesus really exist" Have you got one shred of evidence the bible is true mate?

The Romans and other ancient culture scholars at the time documented jesus.. There is no doubt this man existed. But sure as I took a shit this morning he was not the son of god or any other deity....
