Rabbits On Football Field

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right section . Saw wildlife managment in the title so thought this might be the place to post

I play fooball for the local team . Weve been getting major problems with rabbits digging holes on the pitch , its becoming dangerous as players are tripping on them during training and we have the season starting in august so would love to thin our or get rid of them ASAP .

Shooting them would be my preffered method . But as there is houses backing on to the field theirs no way that is possible . The people in the houses already dislike the football team because of footballs going into their gardens . Any sound of gunfire will result in the police being down there in a instant . Were a small town so im sure the police would love the paperwork involved in prosecuting . Give them something to do . Nobody i know owns a rifle with a silenced rifle so that is out the window . Someone i know takes his lurcher down there ocassionally and gets a few but their still everywhere .

After looking through this forum for the last month or so you all seem to know what your doing . Im a complete novice nxt to you lot . What would your plan of attack be .

on the left of the cricket wicket you can see the dying grass . Its there they congregate . They are really tame . I can get real close to them . You can see the houses at the top next to the pitch . Theyre the ones that would kick up a stink . At the bottom is the farmers mart . On the left is a privately owned field . (Ive toyed with the idea of getting permission and shooting from there but still get the same problem with the rifle noise)

The sports association who owns the field are happy for us to get rid of the rabbits but want nothing to do with it . Something about public liabilty insurance or something .

Anybody have any ideas im all up for hearing them . At the moment im down to going down there with my catapault

Since your looking to use an airgun I've moved your topic. Im sure the lads in this forum will be able to offer you some good advice.

I can assure you now that a shotgun will be a no no!

What would the police prosecute you for if you had permission to shoot there?

I always assumed you had to be a certain distance from people's propexthalfrty even with a air rifle. The association who own the pitch have said their might be a problem with public liability insurance and don't want to get involved even tho they realise it's a problem. at the moment its just me thinking if ways to get rid of them.

I reckon you should use a .223 mate :D while there's a game on.

Joking aside as said. This is a perfect permission, if it is a permission, for a real decent PCP. High end, real accurate and quiet.

I've never said this before but a HW100 in 177 would be the tool for the job. I've literally only skim read the post, so I have no idea of budget or anything. A pucker 510 in 177 would also be sound.

Cheers. Wasnt planning on using a shotgun. Don't have the license yet.

Might be me being overdramatic about the permission aspect. I just had the thought of it went down there and shot them. People from houses complain, cops turn up and the field owners denying any knowledge (because their scared of whatever the public liability problem mIghtfield be) and me getting in the shit. Then when I apply for my license it's held against me

This might be a permission that's more trouble than it's worth. The rabbits may have won... Sometimes they find home in a place that's just too much used by the public to do anything about, and what trouble are they actually causing...? On a football field. It's not as if it's anyone's lively hood with crops etc. again, you may have mentioned something about that.

If they've won they've won. Just means we have to go round and fill the holes in before games. Mrs would kill me if I had to take time off work because of a f****d ankle brought about by me wheezing and not watching where I'm going while chasing someone round the field (sound a bit rapey on 2nd reading). at least we'll have holes to bury the dog shit people leave all over the pitch
