Nee wonder I don't get out shootin' it's take 2 days to get on here to write it up!

Been mental busy with home/work over the last couple of months, manage ONE trip since Feb (Where I had a site director follow me round all night while I took 6 rabbits, nowt like having a senior boss follow you round, was worse than having Mac on me shoulder). So Wed night, our lass falling asleep on the sofa, I bode a quick "reet off out shooting for a couple of hours" and before she could blink I was in the car and on me way. I've not seen Mac since early Feb so on the off chance he was free, pinged him to say I was on my way out if he wanted to join me.

I landed at the usual spot, got ready and only had to wait 10 mins for Mac (I figure he sits in his camo gear all day, just on the off chance). We walked the first field and the crop was up to Mac's tits. Clearly nothing happening here. Mac walked down the tyre tracks and I jumped over to the edge of the field and spotted 3-4 rabbits in a small clearing. I took a standing shot but hit the ground behind the rabbit, and scrare 7-8 off into the bushes. I decided to lay up for a bit and told Mac to check the bottom edges of the field. I sat for 30 mins and as I got up to leave, noticed a damn fox 25 yrds in front just looking at me...cheers for that. Mac siad he'd seen a couple but not got a shot off. We decided to bin the bottom field and middle 3 as the crop is the same on all of them, nipple tickling height.

We moved over on to the other side of the main road where I have a large "r" shaped field. This is open to walkers round the perimeter, so the farmer keeps a 5-10 yard path all the way round the field, clear. It was still light as we took our first walk. We bumped into a guy with a dog who said he'd seen a good few out. We had a bit chat as his dog had worried the rabbits back in before we set off. On coming to a wooded island in the field, I asked Mac "left or right"...."Left he says" so I go off right, spot 4-5 fatties, drop 2 and catch up with Mac 5 mins later round the other side of the island and he had nowt. He decided to lay up, so I carried on down the perimeter, took the best shot of my night with a 54 yard paced shot (my distances are a little off) and spotted a good 15-20 rabbits down the side that ran off.

I went back to Mac with my 3 and he'd had no luck to press. The light was fading, so back to the car to fit the nite-site viper and for Mac to pick up the proton. Everyone rips the piss out of the tv, but its proven itself to me over and over now and I love being able to sweep a field from hip height in seconds. The new nite-site is also in colour (when there is a little light) but it comes into its own in the dark, quickly picking up rabbits the other NV units take longer to spot.

Anyhow, off we go again, Mac lays up while he scopes in the new rifle so I go for a short walk and mange to drop another rabbit. By the time Mac catches up its 4-0. We walk round to where I took the other 3 but manage to scare the rabbits off before Mac could take a shot. We lay up and I say to Mac, "no point us both facing the same way, I'll face the opposite to you, are you looking up or down?" "UP" says he. So I switch round, Mac looking up hill, me down. After 5 mins the bright white of an eye shines back at me "psst Mac, I've one in my sights" click, smack..."did yer kill it?" "YUP".....5 mins later his mate pops out, "Mac, another" click, smack...."did yer get that un an all?" "Yup - not counting or owt Mac, but that's 6".

"Forfuckssake, I allus makes the wrong choice me, if I say left, the rabbits are right, if I say up, the rabbits are down" LOL soz Mac. At that point, Mac walks off over the hill so I moved to a different spot where we had met the lad with the dog. on laying up I marked out 30-40-50 yards with small sticks in the ground and waited. After waiting 5 mins I turned on the NV and almost SHAT myself. The rabbit eye was the size of half the bloody screen, so I quickly aimed and shot. Normally you have a "click...............smack" of the 100 firing mechanism & rabbit skull, this time it was more "clismack"....when I picked him up later it was only 17 yrds. I waited a little longer and took anther rabbit at 38 yrds.

I now had a pile of 5 rabbits (plus 3 back at the car - And there's nowt wrong [BANNED TEXT] my baby tank either Mac LOL), no game bag and the on set of a head ache...I text Mac to tell him I was on my way back to clean the rabbits but no to rush, I had 8 (EIGHT) to sort out LOL.

Mac came walking back 30 min later with a pair of big rabbits hanging off his belt. so 10 in all, a few that got away, no sign of mixy, plenty more sport to be had. I didn't expect much to be honest with the crop so high but didn't realise the farmer had cleared a space for the walkers. It made it easier to hunt the rabbits as they were not all over the field like normal, but hedged into a 5-10 yard strip. Nice that.

Cheers for the night Mac, hope I can get out again before 5 months time!!
