bird 10,014
Ray , he would run all night but think his prey drive was his main asset , he just loved killing things ! ...............I often wonder how he ended up as the lad who bred him had to have the dad put down in his old age as he attacked a couple of dogs without warning . thanks shame about his sire , suppose any dog can change its temp as they get older more so if they doing more than just taking rabbits . you never know they might be few knocking about bullxs with drop of fell hound in them, as good lines for teeth job don't always come round that often . morton 5,369
Morton , what are you looking for in a lurcher that the foxhound will give u ? ..................... im not saying it totally shouldn't , if you want too add fox hound then crack on ,........if you don't want a lurcher too open up and hunt up when lamping then why would you risk fox hound , all im getting across is that , if you want a daytime lurcher that opens up and hunts up , nose down then yes add hound , but then why not use a hound ? im weighing up the pros and cons and I personally don't see the point adding hound blood too a lurcher , why not get a hound ? if people added more hound blood willy nilly then mark my words it will do no favours too lurchers being passed about because there doing what the owners don't want ? I couldn't give two shites if you want too use hound and you want there nose and noise and there pack mentality then go for it ! people not knowing what there getting as generations back theres hound and the attributes come through what is not wanted ! edit too say there pack animals for a reason , don't think for one minute that adding this is going too get you the ultimate foxing lurcher , as it rarely will happen every member in a pack adds there bit too make the pack a very efficient hunter ,.......... they would never hunt as efficient as a pack and if your running them with a pack then why not use hounds ? If you believe adding foxhound blood will make all the resultant progeny yap then thats naive.Id be more interested in breeding towards the attributes they would offer a decent lurcher, conformation, brains, stamina, nose, drive, tractability and size, you may not get all the desired traits at the first attempt,a little selective breeding and an awful useful jukel could be had.Ive been set in my ways for far to long perhaps and have utilised the breeding that as best served my purpose, yet i know the attributes of a foxhound would certainly enhanced my hunting lifestyle.Id not want one for the ultimate lurcher, thats a quest i leave to the ego,s,id want something with the honesty the foxhound as been bred towards for centuries, bred right and culled hard.
