Popular Post jigsaw 11,905
Sitting at home friday night, feet up and a pint of bud watching Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher(fukin dumb film),the phone rings at 10.07.I answer and the land owner from the hill is on.He tells me hes just hunted a big mob of billys off his land, and they need sorting. Can I get out tommmorow to cull A few,so consulted with the wife and she has no plans to go anywhere,I said yes. Next morning I pull in to the yard and the man himself comes out and we chat about this and that before he tels me where to head,so I head out and up followed by the kelpie x and the new saluki x.The wind is absolutely crazy. It was very hard to stay upright.I walked for a good hour checking behind every ridge, searching in amongst the little bunches of trees expecting them to be keeping out of the wind.Well I had another mile of open land to do before I got to the wall of forestry which makes it impossible to go any further without getting down or yer knees and crawl.............which,at my age I dont do Sally the new dog was having a good hunt about in one area and I sent taz on and both dissappeared into a substantial woodland.Missing for a few minutes I sat on a rock and took a rest, trying to get my breath back. While I was there, from out of the trees come 10-15 billys.I was not expecting to see,up they came oblivious to my presence.I waited to see where the dogs were and they appeared behind them and in no rush to chase them.i have Taz this way with all things bigger than a hare or fox,she will stand if I lift the gun and wait for the shot. The new bitch had no more interest in them which pleased me as I do a bit around sheep and a stock steady dog is essential in these places.I put the gun on the first stinker and pulled the trigger, down he went,he was a smallish runt of a yoke and would be easier to pull back, they then changed direction and headed away from me only to encounter the dogs beolow and were then totally confused as to where to run,I picked a big old billy then with a very bad limp and took him out.And my quota was filled I decided to leave the rest for another day.But these two billys.the biggest of the mob headed up towards me and even with me shouting at them took not a blind bit of interest in me and perched themselves on a rock face just feet away from me and there they stayed, dogs close by,me standing no more than 6 feet away, they were not budging.I never saw the likes in te time I was up there.I took a lot of photos and a few videos of them to show my son at home but it was weird to be so close to them and they not bothered.I went to push them off the ridge and the head came down on the white one so I decided ''fuk that'',he can stay there.Any closer and I was getting a head butt. I went about the buisness of gutting the dead ones and the dam awfull job of hauling them back to the fields and road.It took me 3hrs to get them back and I have made a conscience decision, from now on while im alone Im dragging only 1 back and shooting only 1.I cant be putting myself through this torture any more lol.I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest at one point.I took a nice few rest breaks on the way back. While I was hauling the b*****ds back I had to cross a long patch of wild long grass, and as luck would have it I found a fukin hole in between the humps full of water,to which i fell feet first into,up to my knees only because I grabbed the sides and stopped myself going further in.I was drenched and swearing and cussing out loud ,spitting hell fire. the dogs kept a wide berth while all this was going on too. it mightn't look like much but thats full of shitty water. Anyway back to the farm I got with 2 black legs, frozen toes and the wind taking my every breath Nealus was well pleased to see the slain,I told him Id be back in the next few days and take another few but I'll wait till next week and go for 2 kids for the table,Jim,another landowner rang me later that day to say he has a few nannys with kids in tow on his patch as well so I will hit that place next week for a change of scenery.heres a few photos for you to look at,I also got the van filled with ash timber rings for the fire too as a thank you for next winters heating,so well happy. jigsaw 11,905
gnipper,i cant shoot anything and let it lie to rot,I know if I shoot it I wont be able to resist and bring it back with me,which could be my downfall I havent had a lot of goats in the last few months and the effort it took me to get them back is unreal and made me think its time to have a bit of cop on,so Im going to shoot what I can manage from now on and leave the rest for another day.my arms and elbows are still aching a bit honestly lol.
