An Appeal For An Endangered Species.

Recommended Posts

There is a species, very familiar to most of us, that is facing a very uncertain future.

Once a regular sight and sound of towns, cities and villages nationwide, they are now glimpsed only rarely, and are on the very edge of extinction.

In the 1950's, there were tens of thousands, but by 2013, official statistics showed that there were just 28 recorded live births, and the continued existence of this once proud breed hangs in the balance - another victim of passing trends and fashions.

So, if you care about Gary (or the less well-known Garry), please help us in our efforts to preserve this majestic creature for future generations.

A small donation will be used to further our captive breeding programme, or provide duffel coats and bobble hats to see this vulnerable species through winter.

If you should spot a wild Gary, please don't approach, as he may be a bit of a grumpy old sod. You can identify him by the characteristic 'tut' and roll of the eyes, when you ask him a stupid question, and his distinctive but thinning grey coat.

His call is distinctive and easily identifiable, sounding rather like "Why don't they make music you can whistle to any more ?"

But its not too late for Garyus Familiaris - just £2 a month will buy him a quiet corner in the pub and a copy of the Racing Post - so please act now, before it's too late.

Thank you.

Im a Gary an proud!, but I've never been christened does this mean im going to hell? lol

So am I, mate, and my mum says we'll be fine.

I'm sometimes confused with a Gareth, but I believe that he's an inferior sub-species, now confined mainly to Wales.

You should be proud - the name is believed to be derived from the Old English "garwig", meaning "spear of battle" or "spear carrier".

One in the eye for all the little oiks called Kanye or Tamisha, I reckon ! :p
