Slowly Coming Together

Recommended Posts

I've always had collie based dogs so thought I might be in for a challenge. My pup only has 1/8 collie and 1/4 saluki but not had any of the problems people say.......unless they are still to come!! I read a few books and realised the ones that worked for me had nothing to do with lurchers. A dog is a dog and the basics are the basics I reckon which I wanted to get right before anything. I was recommended a book by a mate the other week called 'don't shoot the dog' wish I had read it a year ago instead of all the lurcher books. I think it was me that needed the most training!

That's all Cesar Milan does mate, trains the owners not the dogs!

He's doing well

Way ahead of mine time really flies with pups so much to do

I have been lucky to spend a lot of time with him especially with being on crutches the last few weeks. I don't do much training each day. Prob 30 mins broken down into 5 mins or so. The rest is walks and being a pup. There's time yet terryd. Cheers flipbull. I don't really push the jumping. A couple a day tops. I didn't really do any jump training before 6 months tbh

My pup thought he was jumping a 2high wire fence but did not see the 3rd wire, so his feet and body went over the 2nd wire up and his head and neck hit the 3rd, he flipped over upside down with his paws trapped in the twisted wire. He was yelping in pain and me and my brother had to prise the wires apart. He was lucky not to be seriously injured. He was running about about 5 minutes later like nothing had happened.

Pups coming on well mate, but he's still a pup

What've you done to your leg G?

Cheers, D.

Yeah I'm taking it easy with him D. Been having trouble with my ankle and had to have it operated on. 2 1/2 month on crutches which isn't ideal. Had people walking the pup for me and I have been cracking on with the basics. Get some funny looks standing in a field with my crutches! Mainly wear and tear with the ankle but having to carry Kev around everywhere hasn't helped!! He doesn't like getting his new boots dirty when we are out lamping. Hope your well?

My pup is now 8 months and things seem to be coming together. We have had our moments but tbh he's been a treat to train so far and is now starting to take shape. Have been working on the basics especially his retrieve. He has had a good couple of ferreting trips and has also had a couple of daytime rabbits that we come across whilst out walking. Both were retrieved to hand. Have done some jump training but little and often and he is retrieving dummies on the lamp. I ended up on crutches which has slowed things down but have just kept with the basics until I'm back on my feet. Happy so far and looking forward to next season when he can learn the ropes and put it all into practise. He is a saluki collie grey x grew . 24"tts. ATB WVM.

Hope your off them soon mate, I've had a couple of goes like that but only for weeks, not months. Drove me round the feckin bend. LOL

We're OK mate, moved 2 weeks ago and settled in sound but it's very strange.

Cheers, D.
