Severed Tendent And Ligament Damage.

My 11 month old pup had a run on Sunday and he has severed his tendent with ligament damage on his back left leg just above his knee. He ran out of site and came back ok but must have hit his leg into something, after a hours drive he couldn't put his leg down once home and still can't. Any one had a similar injury and did the dog make a full recovery? Seen the boneman today and gonna see him again in a months time.

I was out with kev one day and my old bitch (retired) snapped her tendon in her back leg jumping a fence and getting caught up, had it operated on and the vet was amazed how quick and well she healed.

My bitch did a similar thing couldn't put her foot down it was the cranial cruciate ligament rupture on the knee I took her to a grayhound vet Michael guilliard he's the top man for the op really knows his stuff my bitch is back running as normal it happened a week before I was going to Scotland hunting i was gutted if you want mikes email or number pm me

If the "boneman" was worth his salt he would have sent you straight to the vet, I'd give him a wide berth in the future sounds a right charlatan!

A good bone man is worth his weight in gold

But like good running dog vets they like hens teeth.

In answer to your pm dranny ive told you a good vets were I take mine the guy that owns it may be hit and miss to get to see even if he still practices but he knows the score with runners but the main thing is find out exactly what is wrong with the dog.

I have never seen a bone man but know a few that has heard very mixed reports about them atb phil

There is no cut or lumps on his leg, I was booked in to see the bone man on Tuesday anyway for my other dogs just to check them over with my pals dogs, He showed me where to feel for his tendent on his right back leg then he showed me where it should be in his left leg and it was in gone just grisly peaces. He still can't put his leg down. Iv spoke to a vet and he didn't sound promising but I'm seeming him on Monday.

Whilst a competent bone man or manipulator, will have more knowledge of a lurcher/coursing dog, than a Vet who only deals with pet dogs, hamsters, cats , etc,...a specialist running dog vet, will usually speak plainly to his client.

By that I mean ,..he will have seen such things many times and will talk to you, realistically.......

 

Facts are, a genuine damaged cruciate ligament ,.either torn or stretched, in a fast and powerful dog,...is not good....

Monday is no good pal. The healing process will have started already.it will be hard enough to sort out now ! Never mind Monday get it to the vets ASAP and the dog may have a chance to run again ! Monday no chance !!!!!

We had a greyhound that had to have its tibia crest operated on after detachment at around 7-8 months old if I remember correctly

First of all a bone man I trust told me exactly what was wrong with it

Them told me which vet to take it to to be operated on

We gave the greyhound the correct length of time post op restrictive self contained kennel rest

Them maybe 8 weeks of lead walks and massage

Stretching ect

Then built him up slowly free galloping

When standing up to this exercise we put him behind the lure

Got him chasing

Schooled him at a local flap and this dog went on to compete in the Donny Leger

Win top open races

And break Sheffields 720m Tk record

 

Patience is the Key and doing everything right post Op

 

and that bone man is a top block, he knows his stuff

Dranny,your post makes no sense,at first I thought it was just your spelling but after reading your last post it is" severed" and not "severe" you mean,if your dog came back on all 4 legs after the run how did it get snapped in the car home ???if he came back alright the tendon would have to be attached,swelling from a heavy knock in that area will put the dog off that leg and untill the swelling is reduced with medication then its hard to get a decent diagnosis,I recently used a med called Cimalgex that is a pain killer and anti inflammatory,I suggest a proper greyhound vet will be the right course of action for you asap,good luck,Wm
