Depression

Recommended Posts

A load of grown men ( and a few twining bitches) whining about 'depression'. Get a grip, man up (and woman up) ffs.

Thank your lucky stars you weren't born in the third world. Get off your arses and sort yourselves out you pathetic specimens of failed humanity.

Only joking------------------------ it's a tough business surviving these days. When the mind gets sick it's supposed to be something to be ashamed of or something to be covered up. The truth is the mind is the most vulnerable part of your body. When it gets ill everything else fails to work properly. I think life is tougher and more stressful today than it ever was, and there's far more pressure on relationships. The way governments treat us in this country is a major part of the problem. Depression has taken the place of the major diseases like Polio,TB etc. Medicating a good proportion of the population isn't the answer. We need to ask the question:' why is there such an epidemic of depression?'

Two months ago I would have said something completely different to what I am saying now. I contracted viral meningitis back then which has left me clinically depressed and on Citalopram tablets to try

When someone is depressed their motivation plummets   Its very difficult to deal with someone whos thoughts and feelings are horrid.   Those that are closest get the full wrath of this debilitatin

its a awfull thing to have got a mate going through a bad time at the moment i can only be there for him when he needs some one to talk to,but why do these doctors fill them with tablets that seem to

We need to ask the question:' why is there such an epidemic of depression?'

Just read a very good book called Learned Optimism ....http://www.amazon.co.uk/Learned-Optimism-Change-Your-Mind/dp/1400078393

This is a book on why you feel and think like you do, and how to change it. Not a quick fix as if by magic fancy, but serious insight into the problems we as a species are facing today. The author's opinion on why there is mass depression is that we have become a species of the 'self'. We search for, strive for and work for glorification of the self. We have less, or no, belief in our communities, our country, and whatever religion we used to have. Depression at not attaining all the material and emotional happiness we believe should be ours is the result.

Rather interestingly, and equally worrying, is the explanation of why various fundamentalist religions are taking such a strong hold in various parts of the world: it is not just ISIS, but in the US very fundamentalist Christian religions also gain more and more fanatical supporters every year: people are trying to attach themselves to something greater than themselves in an attempt to make sense of everything that is wrong in the world today, but going about it in a lemming-like fashion; throwing themselves at such factions in their desperate need to 'belong' to something greater then themselves.

Very interesting reading, and useful as well for those who may be suffering from pessimism, as well as depression.

was any one on this thread scared of going to the doctors? i mean how hard is it going and trying to tell some one that "some thing" isnt right with you and not have any thing physically wrong with you? if you know what i mean?

Its an illness mate, like a broken leg, once you realise that things are easier, the guilt is because we grow up being told to "stop feeling sorry for yourself" and similar, better to talk to somebody asap mate, no shame or weakness having depression, its real.

Jesus Christ heals depression

so does electric shock treatment

Not in my (our) experiance it doesn't. ECT can leave someone with short term memory loss, and the person having it needs to be put under. Hasn't worked in this house. Wouldn't recommend it. To much to go wrong if the Doctors doing it aren't paying enough attention. Believe me.
