Guest vin
hello all. We were up on the dales today and bolting for the dogs with no nets down. What a great day for it... the wind was howling a bit and it was drizzling with a fine misty rain all day...But that was perfect for keeping us and the dogs cool for all the digging I ended up doing...lol. We both took a kit each and an older Fert to keep it company below. etc etc.. . By the time I had caught up with Tomo he had already managed to bag 4 bunnies out of a warren against a wall, Venus was marking up and catching very well today. we ended up pulling 6 out of this warren after digging out one of my hob kits, we then did a couple more together with the dogs and ferts and caught a couple more each...the dogs were on top form and missed very little. we then split up and went to do different areas of the fell we were on. My dogs were marking up and i was dropping the Hob kit ( off Moxy's mate ) in to these warrens and letting him have a go alone..he bolted plenty over the space of the day and ended up killing 3 below ground and had a hold of a few on the way out of holes etc etc..as they say "duck to watter" he seems to have sussed it out after 3 trips out. . .He kills them and eventually if you dont get down with the spade he comes away, but then usually goes back a couple of times before abandoning and moving onto next one..So you have top be quick with the locator and mark out where he is staying etc etc. so far I'm very happy with him. I used the older hob a couple of time and he was fine as usual.he bolted a few and killed 1 below. My moment for the day was watching a rabbit bolt from a warren at the side of a barn whilst the dogs weren't looking.. It made it 3/4 of the way across field before they set off in pursuit and I thought to myself "silly buggers"..No chance...Anyway it ran straight through the wall which was a high one with barb wire strands on top... The pup negotiated the jump perfectly and caught the bunny half way up the banking it was escaping up...I was absolutely gobsmacked that she caught it and as she was running back down hill with it another jumped up out of the sedge grass and she tried catching that with the other still in her mouth...very funny moment..she kept hold of 1st bunny and retrieved it nicely.. Where's REW when you need him...lol. Later on i rejoined Tomo and whilst we were doing a warren and digging out the ferrets the dogs were off into the sedge grass below working the bunnies up out of the seats.. that's got to be some of the best sport a man and dogs can get...the whole spectacle unfolding in front of you is just something special to see. . my young bitch brought us 2 back while we were still digging the ferrets out.. What a day in every way. Meet Moxy. Quote Link to post
