Memorable Dogs Or Days Out

Recommended Posts

First two dogs gave me some of best memorys,Hunting for hours and hours rats to deer and anything in between urban rural,Walking for 3 hours to local estate run a hare or two then back hunting as we went.

Getting up at 2 walking a couple of hours to favourite spot couple of hours hunting then walk back intime to go to school.

One of those mornings waiting at first field for it to get light dog starts telling me she wants to get on lane i lose her hear claws on the road,Feel somthing run across my feet and growls as he almost ran straight into my legsmy first close incounter with mr fox.

Now days find i can catch as much as i want to carry twice a night and not remember a thing about it.

Yet can go out with another dog for a hour and come home buzzing.

Its all about style in dog for me.

Nice post that.

2 memorable trips out for me. 1st was ferretting with my daughter when really young. we took her little mate too. netted up and put the ferret in. only realised the that we'd forgot the spade. anyway the jill had bottled up and we found a battered bit of a public footpath sign and started digging. when we broke through the jill was hanging onto a rabbit so lifted the rabbit out with the jill hanging on. next thing 3 rabbits bolted stright out of the same hole, all jumping about 3 foot in the air. kids faces were a picture and i manage to catch the 2nd one mid air.

2nd and probably most memorable. a lamping mate of mine had split with his girlfriend, was moving house and needed to rehome his dog. the dog was a deerhound greyhound with a smattering of collie about 4 years old. he offered to take me out just to show me what the dog could do.

anyway we were walking through a field of potatoes and he lit one up in a furrow about 20 yards off. the dog strained and my mate says "steady" and slipped the dog. the dog then crawls yes crawls down this furrow like a collie , picks up the rabbit and walk back. i've never seen anything like this before and couldn't believe i've just seen it. 2 furrows on he did the same thing. the next day i went over to his to pick up the dog after sorting it with my mrs and i did say i've never seen anything like that. he lived in a flat above a parade of shops and as we went outside he says " down" to the dog. walked 20 yrds and beckons the dog and says steady again. the dog crawled 20 yards to us with people walking past either side.

he worked like a good un for me well into his old age.

Reminds me of one time ferreting with my dad and digging a 2ft hole with a stick. I was only 11 or 12 and I had the pleasure of pulling the rabbit out. Hands goes in but all I could feel was fur and bones, it was obviously a rotting rabbit, then out flew a rat near my shoulder. We widened the hole so I could get in further and finally got a grip of a rabbit, by its tail that's all. I tug away to only pull of its tail. Eventually we got the rabbit and made our way home. I was a little grossed out by everything but so proud of my ferret and myself.
