Chris Harrison 21
Hi all Looking to buy my first air rifle to hopefully get myself some rabbits and to kill rats etc also just to mess about hitting cans and other targets. Anyway I am a cowboy/western fanatic and found a Winchester type rifle but found it didn't have the power to kill instantly from a decent range. That's no good to me. If an animal is going to lose its life so I can eat it the least I can do is kill it quick as possible. I had ago of my mates weirauch spring rifle, I'm not sure of his exact model, there's a few that look like it. It was a .22 break barrel. Just wondered if any had any suggestions as there are so many to choose from? I have also been looking at this which isn't bad priced http://www.pellpax.co.uk/airguns/air-rifles/spring-powered-air-rifles/pellpax-rabbit-sniper-kit/209 I really want a spring powerd rifle that has enough power to do the job Quote Link to post

Chris Harrison 21
Cheers guys. I will take a look at HW guns. I don't have much to spend on everything at the min maybe about 250 300 quid at most. The gun, case and scope. That's why I was going for the pellpax one. There's a gun shop by me ill go in tomorrow to see what he has. Quote Link to post

You will find one for a good price and its a very good rifle. If you want heavier get the hw80 I like light weight rifles. My mates rifle was high powered but to heavy for my liking. It was ok for about ten mins shooting a target in his garden but I wouldn't want to carry it for hours or have to hold it to long while aiming. Quote Link to post

Chris Harrison 21
First of all, what's your budget? Buying a ready set up combo can be an expensive way of doing it, buying online can also be risky because they want your money before you get the goods, the scopes supplied are usually parralaxed at 100 yards as well so not much good at airgun ranges. They don't tell you that in the adverts though! Seriously your new options are Hatsan 55 or 60s at the lower end, HW99 in the mid range, then the top end HWs and AA springers are the most expensive. How about secondhand? A .22 TXHC with scope, bag, pellets and target holder, less than a tin of pellets through it, advertised at £320 on AAOC. Plenty of bargains about if you keep your eyes peeled. Like I said though, give us a figure to work on and don't buy without at least shouldering the rifle. was hoping to get the gun, bag and scope for a max of 300 or is that figure to low? theres a couple of hw models for less than 200 quid about. pianoman 3,589
Top advice from Tim here. One to follow. As you are a wild west enthusiast, I'd seriously go for an HW77 .22. This rifle looks and handles a little bit like a Walker Henry .44 or Winchester 73 with its underlever action folded up under the barrel and, what's more, it is a seriously superb spring hunting air rifle with phenominal accuracy and knock-down power. Best of all, it falls within your budget if you hunt for one around the 2nd hand sections. There are some real bargains out there with this rifle. Best regards. Simon Quote Link to post
