ryaldinhio 5,187
well i woke up this morning about 6 and it still looked pretty dim, here comes winter, so i decided to leave the mrs in bed and sneak out to one of my perms for a look. it is on a local cricket pitch and the rabbits are very finiky. generally you can get one shot and they are gone. as i pulled up to the gates and opened the car door I saw two in the car park, one adult and one little un. knowing how twitchy they are i got my new rangefinder out and stayed sat in the car. 27yards. I decided to take the shot from where i was before i opened the gate. cocked and loaded the imp and rested in the crook of the door, took my shot, one less rabbit bothering the cricket club. it dropped like a stone. perfect placement just behind the eye. I opened the gates pulled the car into the car park wondering wether I was to late to see anymore rabbits and as I pulled up to my suprise there was a pest of a different kind in the middle of the cricket pitch, a rather large liver and white horse! at first i thought it was a gypo horse but as i got closer and realised it wasnt tetherd on 10yards of rope near a bucket of dirty water i figured out it was from the neighbouring field. As i walked the perimiter of the pitch i saw one more rabbit which i stalked in to 30yards layed prone took my time and. . . missed?! sometimes i just dont understand it! the rabbit promptly showed the white fluffy bit as it dissapeared into the cover. further round the pitch not a bunny in sight and i heard some movement up a tree stood and watched for a while and finally picked out the grey squirrel causing the comotion. i took a rest on the neighbouring cricket nets and took aim, thwack, down he came. dont fancy eatin squirrel so that was stashed in the bushes for mr fox. back to the car back home within the hour. kettle and toaster on and misus didnt even know i had been out. almost perfect start to the day. tried to do photobucket jobby but dont know if it has worked? Just realised there is another pic on there, the woody was unfortunate enough to land in the tree infront of my house about five mins after i had rezeroed the imp in the back garden last night! http://s9.photobucket.com/user/ryaldinhio/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140906_070013_zps851ffea7.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Edited September 6, 2014 by ryaldinhio 2 Quote Link to post

ryaldinhio 5,187
seems to be a recurring theme so may give it a try next time. will have a look in the cooking section for some recipes. Quote Link to post
jamesS410 106
I've tried squirrel a few times, fried and casseroled, but always found it a bit bland compared to other game. Maybe its just me or maybe I'm cooking it wrong. Any tips on how to get the best out of it would be much appreciated as I like to eat as much of what I shoot as possible. Quote Link to post
