russ2012 328
Cheers lad once it does a good job fixing up de dog il be happy the tablets seem an easier option all right doh just remember antibiotics are to treat infection/bacteria and jabbing a dog regruarly with them wont stop a dog getting a infection a good daily scrub with warm dettol or savlon daily and you should never need it antibiotics way over rated imo when the time comes you might need it they wont work once cleaned properly you wont go wrong ATB 3 Quote Link to post
whitefeet4190 1,729
Yer it's good stuff it's basically the same as penecillin but there is something in the strep bit that is not great for old dogs, it can cause kidney problems so just make sure they are not drinkin abnormal amounts of water after u have given it to them Atb Quote Link to post
Ggib 370
never use it, i always use salty water or dettol but when needed i use amoxycillian tablets , but im sure it would save a dogs life when needed 1 Quote Link to post

Bail82 1
I agree with russ. Years ago when I worked terriers with my uncle we found that after a while giving them jabs actually made it take longer to heal. We started just cleaning them with savlon and after a few days if it wasn't looking like it was healing right we then give them a jab. Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
to many are to quick to reach for the antibiotics , a good clean up and some savalon - germolene - cut n heal --terramycin spray should be enough but should things get worse then go down the antibiotic route 1/2 mil jab of la penicillin and a course of amoxicillin will cure 99% of things [1 capsule for 4-5 days ] just like humans dogs will build immunity to antibiotics then you end up using far to much and stronger ABs which just defeats the object Quote Link to post

Bryan 1,363
properly used antibiotics are the greatest things available to humans and animals. They dangers are not using enough for long enough, using the wrong type of antibiotic for the type of infection (gram +/-) low risk of allergic reaction, even if used before. People or dogs don't develop resistance to antibiotics , bacteria develops resistance if the wrong dose, timing or type of antibiotic is used. Proper speedy after care will help reduce the needs for antibiotics, but don't be afraid to use them. wash everything with plenty of saline or very dilute cooled boiled water with a little salt. flush any punctures with saline etc. 1 Quote Link to post
